Well if your mobo does support dual channel..in the BIOS is should be under your advanced settings.. the same place you change the multiplier, FSB, Vcore..etc. If your stock voltage is 1.8v, try making it 1.9v for example.

That's true for Intel CPUs (for now).

If your board is supposed to have dual channel capabilities, try double-checking the manual, or even changing memory slots. For instance, many motherboards have four RAM slots, two of each color. Now, most boards use matching colors indicating dual channel operation if you stick your pair into two slots sharing the same color. However, some motherboard manufacturers go just opposite (such as MSI) and if you use two slots of the same color, you get single channel.

Like I said.. for my board I had to raise the Vram by .1 in order to access the dual channel support. Please try what I said and see what happens. If you cant find where to do it, post a screen shot of your BIOS page options and I can tell you which to look in.

I'm not positive but I think some chipsets have a limitation that can't enable dual channel operation when all four DIMM slots are used. Also, if the chipset is having trouble operating with certain RAM modules, it will default back to single channel operation, especially in your case where you are using different sized modules. These are all possible causes you should look into.

Try using the 2 x 1GB set and then the 2 x 512MB set by themselves and see if you can get dual channel mode to work on both sets. If it enables under these conditions, you then need to run stability & memory tests to iron out any timing or compatibility issues. Once you have done that, you can try all four modules again to see if it works but I really think that your problems are with using all four DIMM sockets, especially when combined wtih different module sizes.

Hope this helps... =)
