I've just put together my new super system I've been saving for over the summer, the specs are:
Case: SilverStone Temjin 5
Mobo: DFI LANPARTY NF4 SLI-DR
PSU: TruePower 550W 550W ATX 2.04
CPU: Athlon 64 x2 4400+
HSF: Zalman CNPS7700B
RAM: OCZ VALUE SERIES PC3200 1GB 2X512MB DDR400
Video: eVGA GeForce 7800 GTX
HD: Western Digital WD2500KS 250G SATA-II 16M
DVD: Plextor 716A 16x DVD-/+RW
OS: WinXP Pro OEM
So far I'm very happy with the system and don't have any major complaints. However I have noticed that the chipset temperature seems uncomfortably high. ITE Smart Guardian shows an idle temperature of about 45 C and a load temp of between 50-54 C. When I saw this I decided to take off the stock DFI cooler on the LANPARTY mobo and replace the thermal pad it comes with with some thermal grease. After scrapping off the pad, cleaning it with alcohol and applying the past I find that the temps are only about 1 degree or so cooler on average. One reason that it might be overheating is that the 7800GTX card is right over top of the chipset HSF, in fact it sort of touches it a bit. It doesn't matter with of the x16 slots I use it's the same.
Is this something I should be worried about and is there anything I can do?
