Mobo Beeps During Gaming when I set Mouse Sample Rate to 200???

I have a P4C800-E mobo, and a Logitech MX500 Mouse running on XP Pro's default drivers, (but had the same issue with Logitech's Mouseware drivers). The Mouse is hooked up via PS/2. All other stats are in my rigs link under the P4 3.6 rig

The issue is when the Sample Rate in Device Manager >Mouse> Properties> Advanced is set to 200, I get random, but infrequent beeps from my mobo.

When the beeps occur, my mobo loses connection for a split second. Which means: If I'm running forward using the up-arrow key, I'll be stopped and have to release and re-press the arrow key to start running again.

The issue completely disappears when I set the Sample Rate back to the default of 100. Adjusting the buffer from 100 to 200 or 300 did nothing to stop the beeps.

Setting all video and system clock settings and voltages back to default did not stop it either.

Anyone have ANY idea why this would be happening?

It was always my impression that upping the sample rate on PS2 was a hit or miss kinda thing, similar to overclocking. You may be pushing it beyond it's ability, try a setting in between 100-200.

I might be confusing PS2 with Serial port though.

I don't have an option between 100 and 200 🙁

There probably is a way to do it, but it's been 3-4 years since I messed around with that kind of stuff. Might want to search CNET or some other site for a Util.

That beeping typically means that the information coming in from a mouse and/or keyboard is overflowing the buffers. Try pressing down a fistful of buttons on your keyboard and see what happens!

Well, I switched to USB. No problems yet. We'll see how it goes in the long term. The mouse does seem to move a bit smoother. I guess this is because of the higher default sample rate of USB.

I thought the limit on PS2 was 125 or something. So it's probably the same thing that happens w/ keyboard overflow...

My MX700 is on USB, I don't see an option for sample rate... does it just default higher on USB?

USB's default is supposedly 125. Though, I have a feeling that some Mouse drivers raise that, or it's hardware controlled.
