Hi,

Mother board: ASRock Z68M/USB3 Socket 1155 Intel Z68
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=Z68M/USB3

RAM: Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9
http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Silverline/996770.aspx

Is it OK to use only ONE module of RAM? Reason: assemble two computers. For cusual web/office usage. 4 GB of RAM would be enough. As there is a sale at my local computer store on the 2x4GB modules above. I wonder if I can split that RAM kit to fit both computers.

In case this works OK, are there any adverse effects for doing so?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Perfectly OK. It will run in single-channel mode instead of dual-channel mode though. It will cost a small amount of performance in other words.

Thanks very much for your help.

EDIT: was about to ask you some high level technical info as why dual channel can run in single mode. But got the explanation here: http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Memory/Dual-Channel

This article shows that the performance loss in single-channel in the real world is less than 5%. This should be acceptable for the computers I am preparing.
