Hi all,

I'm shopping for a notebook to replace my Desktop system. I'm not a huge gamer but want a notebook that will last for the longest time, which points to Radeon Mobility 9600 I think.

The question is whether to get a system with the Pro version and 128 or a system with the non-pro and 64 mb, (like the difference betweeen the HP nc6000 and nc8000).

What do you think? Will it matter?

and as a side question, what would be the difference between a Radeon 9600 and a FX5600 in a laptop?--(Oops, nevermind this, just read the 9600 vs fx5650 comparison on anandtech)

Thanks,
Marc

IMHO, 64 MB of video memory will be plenty for a medium resolution screen like the one in the nc6000. If you were a heavy gamer and were going for an UXGA screen, then I would recommend 128 MB.

Thanks for the input.

I'm in the "one appointment away from bifocals crowd" so wouldn't go for a high res screen on any laptop I get. and so have no plans to game at any res over 1024 for sure.

I understand that the nc6000 laptops that will be available for initial shipment will only have 32 MB of video memory. If you are planning to buy an nc6000, I recommend holding out for 64 MB.
