Mobile vs Non-mobile

Sorry for my ignorance, but I understand that mobile Barton's OC much better than the normal variety; however, what are the other differences? You can just get a mobile barton and throw it into a regular NF7-S, OC and go? I would assume if I were to mess with voltages and multipliers, then I would need to get a better cooling setup than if I were to just OC the fsb for a regular Barton.

Again, sorry for the lack of knowledge, the last processor I knew anything about were OC'ing the cellies from 333A to 700 and such :)

Based on what I've read the mobile is the exact same size and there is nothing you need to do differently with it. The stock voltage on them is 1.25 vs. 1.65 for a desktop (I think it's 1.25, and not 1.45 which you see in some places wrongfully, I think!).
I would need to get a better cooling setup than if I were to just OC the fsb for a regular Barton.
I don't see why. The mobile chips are simply superior. They are unlocked, which is awesome for OCing, and they can run at stock settings at such a low voltage that if you're willing to put some voltage in to bring them up to what a normal Barton runs at they will be good for some serious mhz.

yeah some of the mobile XP's run at 1.25v and some at 1.45v
they call the 1.25v ones ultra-low power or something like that

yeah unlocked and obviousely a better hand picked batch than the desktop versions
not every desktop 2500+ can run at those low voltages

And the NF7-S will be able to screw with voltages and multipliers with ease?

It still seems scary to mess with all that with stock cooling :)

Yep, all within the BIOS. NF7-S is a good board for overclocking. No need to play with stock cooling; buy an OEM chip (or retail if you care about warranty), and an aftermarket heatsink/fan. Get both from newegg. In terms of the "cheap" aftermarket heatsinks I bought the aero lite 7 from newegg because I figured it was the best in the price range. Better is the aero 7+, and in that range there may be others better.

It's not in stock! HSF is actually something you could think about getting locally. One of my local stores actually has the aeor 7+ for only a few bucks more than at newegg, but save the $6 shipping (though you do pay tax). It may be worth looking locally.

also, for some reason my mobile processors run cooler than my old 2500+ bartons. My mobile 2400+ that I have running at 2600mhz@1.725v runs right at 40C with prime95 running for hours. See Pic for motherboard monitor temps.

I am not worried about it not being in stock, I have a couple months before I will have the money stashed away to get all the parts I want (if I get piece by piece at a time, I will be too tempted to throw some of them in my crashbox and blow something up =P)

I have that heatsink. It's no much better the the AMD stock hs. I wouldn't recommend that for serious overclocking. Get one of the Thermalrights and a 80mm fan to go on top of it.

What a gem of chip you got there! Bump the voltage up, I bet you can get 2.8 Ghz out of that puppy.

i agree
get something big and copper with an 80mm fan
thermalright is great

I am not looking for uber OC'ing.. I just want it to run at about 3100 or 3200.. Whichever just the FSB can do without much else.. Then I may mess with multipliers and voltage if I see it runs cool :)

I think it should do 2.9-3.0ghz. I'm going to borrow my friends 92mm tornado before I go any higher.
