Is there any sort of mobile or lite version of the forums? I have attempted to access it on my blackberry and was just curious. Thanks.

Thanks. Looks like the official answer is that it has some potential merit but is not implemented at this time and perhaps they will put it in a later version of FT when they see fit. Not a big deal, just was hoping to make it a little easier to pass the time while riding the train to work.

It will work as is on my ipaq w/windows mobile 4.x

The only thing that doesnt work are the buttons at the top. If they added separate links (for those) it would be fine. I cant respond to PMs or create threads w/o those buttons, but can do everything else.

Try it and you'll understand, too 🙂 It seemed like a cool novelty at first, but got old very quickly.

Yep, from the the 1st link Evadman posted:

If there is enough demand, its a possibility. Although reading a forum on a 3" screen seems a little silly to me? (personal opinion). I just don't see the real need for it, but that is my own opinion.

I think i have viewed it on my cell phone before via Vision from Sprint. Let me just say that it was ridiculous. Everything was all smashed together and you could barely read it. But you cell phone SHOULD do some sort of converting to make it at least visible.

It's silly because the FT isn't serving it up nicely or the browser isn't able to render for small screens nicely. HoFo gets a lot of traffic from WAP users because of its focus and its WAP version of the forums. I've used Opera Mini to view FatWallet, and while the formatting was a bit weird, it was very legible. Popped over here on Opera Mini and again, it's a little weird but very legible.

IMHO, the #1 use would be to keep up with the Hot Deals forums. Ya never know when there's a good post.

Part of the problem when viewing this forum is that if you log in you not only have to scroll past every tab at the top for anandtech but you also have to scroll past the account options and the buddy list. My thumb about dies trying to get to the bottom. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a stripped down version of the forum with maybe PM access, forum lists, and posts. I don't know much about the server side of making mobile versions but I know some sites will switch you over to another version. Mobile browsing still isn't great (at least on the BB 8700) because I hit a lot of sites that just stack everything at the top and it takes forever to scroll the page (CNN is a big one that comes to mind). An excellent example of a mobile site is CNN. They have great links and are well organized for mobile users.

I think it would be more practical to read AnandTech.com reviews on a PDA rather than the forums.

Just my two cents.

You mean the full articles right RossMAN? If so I agree, the avantgo "Anandtech To Go" channel isn't enough for me 🙂
