Mobile Processor/Desktop comparison

I have a dell 8500 with p-4m 2.0

I am looking at a new acer with centrino 2.0.

How do these compare in terms of battery usage and performance?

Will there be a real world difference that is noticeable? I am sure on the battery, but what about processing power?

Is there a chart that shows what a centrino is compared to desktop wise?

Thanks

JC

A pentium-m at 2.0ghz will be WAY faster than a p-4m at 2ghz. It will get better batter life as well. My pentium-m overclocked to 2.4ghz is fater than my P4 @3.8ghz when it comes to gaming. In fact it's faster at most things. The only things the P4 win at are video encoidng, and SMP aware programs that use hyperthreading, which your P-4m wouldn't have anyway. You will get a big performance boost, as well as improved battery life.

Pentium M pwns P4m Plain and simple. Especially 2.0 vs 2.0, the P4m will look like it should be powering a Fisher Price toy.

Well that would depend on your settings, but it doesn't force the CPU to run at a slower speed if it's under full load if thats what you mean. I believe they drop down to 600mhz at idle.

Yes my thinkpad with is a Pentium M 1.6GHz drops to 600MHz when its just "chillin" doing typing or idling. you can tell it not to throttle though if you want.
