like teh internets & tv on a teensy screen, mp3s, stupid polyphonic ringtones, still & video cameras, email, bluetooth connectivity to our computers, printers, fridges, kettles and underpants...i don't want to know what they'll be selling us next :p

Am i alone in just wanting a device that makes & recieves calls and texts? :(

Nope. Thats all I want. THATS IT. Go ring ring and take up a minimum amount of space without being so small as to be ackward to use.
If I could get a Razr or A900 without TV, ring tones, MP3, Camera etc etc bullshyte bullshyte I'd be all over it.

So the manufacturers tell us what WE want or do we tell manufacturers what THEY should make?

You are not alone.

All I want from my cell phone is to make and receive calls, have an address book and an alarm clock in case I need it.

I don't get the whole text messageing/web/e-mail thing. If you have something to say to me then call me.

-edit- however the bluetooth integration with the car is a nice feature.

Who wants to carry an MP3, Palm, Phone, Gameboy and Video Player when you can carry one device that does all of it. Of course if your phone does all of it but does none of it very well then it defeats the purpose. This is problem I have run into. Plus I want all of this for free, which isn't happening.

I wish Apple and Nintendo would hook up and make an all-in-one.

I wish I could find a phone like the Samsung A900 I just ordered that has NO camera on it. I can't take this thing into work but most of the camera-less phones are crap.

I'm looking for a new phone right now and I'm having the same gripes. If I could extend battery life by removing mp3 players, cameras etc... I would gladly do it. My only requirements for a phone right now is: Call, Text Message and Bluetooth (mainly for the hands free part).

I would have thought that you'd want phone based access to your servers. The only thing I can think of that I'd want out of a phone beyond the basic features is some kind of data connectivity so that I can access my servers from anywhere...

Bluetooth is useless to me. I dont' even have ABS in my car :)

Depends on how you use it I guess. I have my phone synced with my Outlook calender through Bluetooth, and play games on it when I'm on the bus or waiting, and use the web browser to look up directions, and have some mp3s on it (hate the ear phones though, they need to start making 3.5mm jacks standard), and access the internet through it from my PDA (or laptop when I'm travelling), and use the camera to take headshots of people when I put them in my phonebook (makes it much easier to remember people) as well as using it to take notes and memos.

I'd like simple phones again... it's not freaking jewelry, it's a phone, that needs to make calls, accept calls, and then store phone numbers with a name and send/receive text messages. (For me, texts are somewhat optional too, but handy in some cases)

I need those 4 features, not Solitaire, a camera, etc. Would I like a color screen? Sure, it's nice, but not needed, a nice large B&W screen that has a decent resolution can work well too.

Texting is great for when you are not able to carry on a verbal conversation (ie in class/meeting...)
