Mobile Phone for Father

Greetings,

Forgive my ignorance about phones. I just use whatever my company sent me for free when they switched over from analog to digital, so I am very ignorant (have not even sent a "text message" in over four years).

I have decided to get my father a new cell phone for his Christmas gift. He uses only a slightly better phone than mine currently and he complains about its inability to synchronize with Outlook 2007. He uses his phone a good deal, but mainly uses it for receiving text messages (from his programs that monitor equipment, he never sends them) and talking on it. It is owned by him and he pays the bill (not the company he works for). Bluetooth capability would be nice so he does not run the risk of going off the road if someone calls him while driving (like now).

His service provider: Alltel
Amount willing to spend: $100

I realise that mobile phones make use of differing protocols, but I am unfamiliar with those protocols. I am also aware that phones are "bound" to the provider if they are bought locked instead of unlocked. I read that Alltel uses the CDMA protocol.

One of my friends has a Motorola Razor, I have used it before and it seems very nice, so that is the one that I am currently looking at.

This looks like an ideal one for him, but it does not list CDMA as a protocol and it says that it is an unlocked "international" phone. Will it still work with Alltel service in the US? If so, will it be locked into Alltel once he transfers his service to it?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

He needs a CDMA phone here , then he calls Alltel with the number (IMEI #) on the inside of the phone after he takes off the back & takes out the battery to find it, and they'll activate it for him.
