Mobile Graphics cards

I've looked on the egg for replacements, can't seem to find any. Am I missing something? I imagine it's not hard to do.
 
mobile cards are generally soldered in and are part of the motherboard and unreplaceable with only a couple exceptions IIRC. usually a toasted mobile video requires a new mobo.

his card should be available on ebay. a few months back I was searching for the same card and there were quite a few. try searching for mobile 6800 or something like that
 
Really? Even the discrete cards? I imagined it was that way with the integrated graphics, but I didn't know the discrete cards were like that.
 
It depends what model of laptop your friend has. I remember a lot of people switched out their 6800s for 7800s in their Dells, so at that time it was possible to find people selling their old 6800s on ebay. So it definitely is possible, you'd just have to Google your friend's model and see if someone is selling one that fits.

Maybe have a look around MXM Upgrade, it's a european site, but has quite a bit of information. And a store where you can buy mxm cards.

Be careful with compatibility, even if you are among 5% or less laptops that actually have a mxm slot the vendors often tweak them so that a generic mxm card upgrade wont work.

I thought with all the notebook graphics cards cooking, would lead to more modular notebook designs with mxm in the future. But now i realise cause of the downward spiral in new notebook prices the model has become to sell shorter lifespan disposable notebooks instead.
