Whats the big thing with mobile gaming ? I have gamed a little on my iPad but don't see the addiction ?

The games are fun for short times but I don't see myself spending longer than a hour on a game.

Yea, simple minds are easily entertained, but us with bigger gaming appetites are not seeing much worth while.

However FF9 was just released. GTA Liberty City stories was also just released, I have never played it but it was a game designed for the PSP so it should feel more like a traditional console game.

So? Not every form of entertainment needs to enthrall you for hours. There's different games for that.

This topic is so tired and pointless. Are you guys in some sort of group and you take turns re-posting this every month?

iOS has Bioshock and XCOM for crying out loud. Android doesn't have those, but they do have Telltale games, GTA, FF, BALDUR'S GATE, etc.

You want to play serious games on mobile? You can do that. You want to moan on the internet about the lack of "quality" gaming on mobile when it's painfully obvious you don't know what you're talking about? You can do that, too, but the outcome isn't as nice.

And if you can't adjust your expectations for a different platform, that's on you. Even when we talk just lowly "mobile only" games, there's plenty of quality to keep a person occupied.

My phone has #ymbab, Bloons TD5, Crashlands, Deep Dungeon of Doom, Doombad, Elder Sign, Kingdom Rush (all 3), Hitman GO, Lara Croft GO, Plague Inc., Monument Valley, Organ Trail, Quell Memento, Ridiculous Fishing, and Threes to name about half.

I don't play them for hours on end, but I play them. They're plenty fun. They do exactly what they should, which is entertain me.

Somewhere, someone is asking what's the big deal with pc/console gaming.

Mobile gaming is slowly but surely evolving to also include more in-depth, "hardcore" games. Granted they are all ports of existing games, but it's better than nothing. Playing Knights of the Old Republic on my phone is wicked cool. The Note line of phones is perfect for the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition series.

The real problem is that you have many, many mobile games that are 100% designed to get people to waste money. I don't consider these as real games. They are money traps disguised as games. They all play exactly the same, just with slightly different looks.

My only problem with smartphone games is that its killing the Nintendo portable market, IMO. I'd rather play a portable game on my 3ds than on my phone or tablet.

Nintendo is killing themselves. They should have brought their franchises over to Android/iOS years ago.

I play games on my phone all the time. Right now, I'm hooked on Madden.

I don't understand people who are like "omg you play games on your phone so you're not a hardcore gamer". It's not like I can carry my xbox one everywhere I go.

Not really, they should have published more AAA titles for their systems. Smartphones are great and all but touchscreen controls for a pokemon type game would be horrid. I do own a MOGO controller but even then its not as comfy as a 3ds.

IMHO Pokemon would be one of the easiest to port to a touchscreen. See games like EvoCreo (pokemon copy cats, but this one I actually think is better than any pokemon game), it works very well on a touch screen.

Ugh, Madden is one of those games that I feel is ruined on Mobile. Instead of giving us a close copy of the console experience, everything is changed to make it super, SUPER casual. The games are so short that you only get a few drives per game, there's not enough time to have a real back and forth. No QB scrambling, no audibles, etc. It's just a badly done job by EA. I would gladly pay for an authentic football game brought to mobile, instead of the free to play crap they made.

FIFA 14 and NBA 2K16 are good attempts at bringing the sport games to mobile.

Or they're just playing the wrong games. Right now I'm enjoying Pocket Miner 2 and Skiing Yeti Mountain. The Room 3 was just released which should also be good (I loved the first two).

CLASH OF CLANS! lol

This is the kind of terrible bullshit "games" that fill the app stores. D: They suck, don't ever play them and damn sure don't give them money.

Avoid anything from EA - they're simply a fancy, graphically intense "enter credit card number" field.

Bard's Tale is on Android. Squenix has released a few games. Gameloft, love 'em or hate 'em, makes the closest things to AAA games on mobile.

Right now on my phone, I'm playing CSR Classics, Leo's Fortune, OTTD, Out There and Skyforce.

As far as I know, people do not win 6 or 7 figure prizes for competing in eSports tournaments on iphones and ipads. Nor do people buy tickets to events to watch people play games on iphones and ipads.

Only because they choose not to play Hearthstone on their iPads?

The e-sports connection is weak at best. It's a completely tangential argument.

Its all business. People have their own preference on games. Either way you still pay for the games on PC, Console, Xbox, PS, ect. Bigger companies that develop games can afford to buid a free game for smartphones for what ever is in their budget. Open source is a good thing but I mean if you create a game that people like, you would want to get paid for your work right? Just like the work you do for a living. At the end of the day gaming is just gaming. I dont care if i have to pay for it or not. If its worth it and you enjoy it, why not.

There's no such thing as a free game. If a game is advertised as "free" you can be guaranteed you're expected to pay from $1 to $100 to do various tasks in the game faster. EA games are the worst offenders.

If you noticed from the list of games I'm playing, 3/5 are paid apps - no adds, no IAPs. I have not given any money to CSR Classics, but I paid Skyforce to remove the apps (It was $2 - a more than fair price for the hours I've put into it).

There's a difference though. You can usually tell from the app's store page whether it is a real game or just a money trap. Take Alto's Adventure, a 100% built for touchscreen smart phone game. It's a fantastic game, great artwork, and music. You can tell it's a "real" game and not something a dev quickly threw together to try and con people into opening their wallets. Now compare this to one of the many clash of clans type games. They're all exactly the same, they create time sinks that try and push you to spend money. They don't even feel like real games.

Mobile games are all about adverstisment and in app purchases, mostly for virtual currency. That's how they make money that way. Many games also are created such that without spending real cash, game becomes extreamly time consuming to progress or too difficult to beat at all.

It's a hit or miss with mobile gaming. Some games are actually very very nice such as Xcom, Shadowrun, Icewind Dale, and Baldur's Gate.

There's also Infinity Blade, Asphault Airborne, Horn, and quite a few others...

Devs are shooting themselves in the foot by not releasing phones with built in physical controls imo. There should be a Nintendo Phone and a PSP phone with specs on par with Nexus 6p and iPhone 6S which also has a slide out gamepad aka Xperia Play.

I don't know why Xperia failed, but it really shouldn't have.

Yup, I hear 'ya. Son and I are PC desktop gamers from 1993. And I don't play games on my LG V10.

BUT, I just got the 'Table Tennis Touch' android game app... Wow, what a blast... amazingly realistic for the gaming limitations of a smartphone. Very addicting...
