FRS is a popular item on this forum. Shopping at my local RS, I found the 21-1850 (retail 79.99) is currently on sale for 29.99. This is a great price! I purchased at retail and find them to be one of the best FRS radios for car to car communication. Sales claims I overlooked the add in the sales flyer. I went home and still could not find the sale.

Excellent range do to the fact RS puts the transmitter in the base of the antenna. FCC claims you can not physically separate the transmitter from the antenna. I have seen Cobras that break this rule. Even using one with another person with a hand held FRS in a second vehicle has excellent range and clarity.

Tried it out with two of them in cars, and got a true 2.25 mile range, through buildings also. Had to hold the monitor button at the farthest range to break the squelch, but it was pretty clear. Claimed range is 3 miles, which is probably accurate for wide open areas.
The microphone seems lower in sensitivity compared with my Motorola handheld; possibly intended to minimize road noise. It's strange but they seem to work much better between two of these units, but when talking to the handheld, the mic output seems too low to hear without really cranking up the volume on the other radio. Don't know why it seems to be fine between two mobile sets though.

It has the 38 subcodes, scanning, ear and mic jacks, control lockout, and backlight.
This is nice to leave in the car and not need to worry about dead batteries, since it plugs into the cigarette lighter socket.

Nicely made, and at the 62.5% discount from the 79.95 reg price-

It was listed as a clearance item at the store I went to; not in a sales flyer or online. Couldn't resist getting a couple; handy dandy units

got a pair today and they are very clear. pretty good distance. works with all my other radios. RS, Motorola slk280, and cobra PR900DX GMRS.
