I'm thinking of buying a laptop using the mobile Athlon 64 3000+ w/ 1MB cache.

Any comments? Good - Bad - Indifferent?

Details:
Compaq X3000 family
512 MB
XP Home
15.4" WXGA
DVD+R (speed?)
32M Video Card (I don't game)
60G HD

how much you paying? I got the emachines. better gaming card 9600 just incase you EVER want to game.

I wager the Vid card in ur comaq is shared but just a guess.. I would go with the Emachine or the ACER... Just to name a few sellers of the A64 MOBILE chips...

i had a 6805. it was great as long as it was plugged in. running on battery it was iffy at best.
now i have a dothan 1.7. i would not get the hp/compaq, cause the video card is weak, if you get one, get one with at least a 9700/9600...at least

On my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1630 , I get 2 - 2 3/4hr battery life with the same CPU, and a 7K60 in the system.
Its good but if you want more battery life, Centrino's the way to go.

Just make sure if you do purchase a AMD64 system that it is using the MOBILE chip and not the DTR.. The mobile uses about half the power.. there are some great systems out there for a nice price and custom done.. If you need i can post some sites...

Have a m6805 here - get's about an hour of battery life when gaming at full steam (1.9GHz, 420/220). Performance is excellent - not a huge difference between my desktop (A64 3000+ w/9800 Pro).

Anyone here tried using Battery Eater?
I tried it and the m6809 (runs at 800MHz, no bios update) last for 1 hour and 30 mins only.
