Mobile A64 HSF question

Can someone give me an example of which heatsinks I would use with a TRUE mobile A64 as discussed in another thread? I would also need to know backplates whether or not which holes I need in my motherboard etc.

Thanks cause I really want to see 2.6 to 2.7 on a A64 and you guys hold the key.

The Cooler Master Hyper 6 is probably the best heatsink at the moment. The fan that comes with it is horrible though and if I remember correctly you can only use 80mm fans.

I tried SLK948U and it worked with mounting kit that came with it (it includes backplate among other pieces)
You will have to remove CPU mount from mobo if it has any (was easy to do on mine)

I think this is the best heatsink Thermaltake Tower112

------------------------------------------------------
AMD Athlon XP T-Bred B DLT3C 1700+ @ 2.3GHZ (1.775v) 400FSB = 3200+
Abit NF7-S V.2 (nForce2-U400)
Corsair TwinX XMS 3200LL 512MB @ 2-3-2-6 (2.6v)
Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB
Antec TrueBlue 480W
Thermalright SLK-947U with 92mm Vantec Tornado @2800RPM
Antec PlusView 1000AMG
Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks THX 550 5.1

There is no such thing as a "true" mobile Athlon 64; they're both DTR CPUs, which are by definition, mobile

Well...if you look on newegg it looks like a .1 volt difference and one is called DTR and the other just says mobile...so...I don't know what to say. I would be willing to bet the TRUE mobiles or whatever you want to call them are Multiplier unlocked.

Yeah, but would it be as stable? Sure, both are 2Ghz 1MB L2 cache mobile parts, but because the 1.4v 'true" mobile part is designed with the slightly lower voltage it be logical to think it would be a slightly better overclocker.

NM. Just saw your post in another thread on thermal design. With the DTRs coming in at 81.5W @ 2.2Ghz, and the mobile rated 62W @ 2Ghz, your theory that they're the same chip but rebadged is plausible.

I'm very tempted to test your theory though 😉

It's perfectly stable at 1.4v. I put it through 24 hours of Prime95 to make sure. It's the same chip no doubt about it.

What I really think happened was they found out that the DTR CG chips are fully stable at 1.4v and decided to create the illusion of a low power consumption chip by designating another model and capping it at 2Ghz. I'd be interested to hear results if you do purchase the CPU just for kicks though.

What happened is the same thing as happens any other time, all the cores are the same, but some are capable of reaching higher speeds / lower voltages, some are not. The mobiles are guaranteed to be able to run at 1.4v, the DTRs are not. That doesn't mean they are guaranteed not to, as your example shows. Same thing as with overclocking, really.
