I recently got a cheap laptop for, well, no real reason... but the problem is i cannot get my Microsoft Wireless G PCMCIA (mn-720) card to dectect/get powered by the computers PCMCIA cardbus. I have tested another 3com modem in the pcmcia cardbus to ensure that it wasn't the cardbus & it powered the modem & detected it fine. I have now tested 2x MN-720 wireless cards in this laptop neither one gets power or gets detected, is this wireless card perhaps to new to work with this laptop???.... i'm running winXPcorp & have run out of ideas... any input would be helpful...

i only found one other post searching google regarding this same problem but it was with suse linux distro.... no power to the card like i said, but tested & working pcmcia cardbus... didn't get any helpful advice from the other post either... I've tried posting this problem on www.amdmb.com no one seems to have any idea on that forum so hopefully someone here can be of some help! Thanx!

What OS are you running? Do you have to enable the cardbus slot in the CMOS?

Could you need a BIOS or driver update? Try searching Compaq/HP's site for driver and BIOS updates.

Good luck. 🙂

running winxp on the comp... i searched through all the options in the bios & see nothing about the cardbus... i haven't tried a bios update yet or drive update for it... i'm just using the driver installed by default form the winxp driver .cab... thanx for the advice will try that next

I checked the compaq site & it only listed driver/updates for 95, 98, ME & NT... perhaps it has issues running winxp? however i have tested the cardbus using a 3com modem as i said & it powered up & installed w/o a problem..... so still not sure what to do

If you have one, try any other cardbus device with the slot to see if it's in the machine or just unique to your card. If you don't get it running, contact their tech support for more info.

i've tried the cardbus with another 3com modem & it works fine... i've tried with 2x mn-720's both tested in another system && neither one will get power or be detected..... ???

If you mean other devices work with your machine, and the mn-720's don't, then it sounds like a unique compatibility problem. 🙁

Sorry, but I'm out of ideas. Contact HP Tech Support here.
