This was announced a month or so ago on the internet, with some people getting it earlier. It's supposed to be rolling out slowly before the 25th so that's why it was showing up.

True, and copy and paste. I love how they marketed this as a smartphone but left out basic features like video capture, MMS, and copy/paste

I never used these features before on my three Palm products on Sprint. Oh wait, the Centro, and most WinMo products on Sprint don't have actual MMS! You have to hack it in ...

I use copy and paste for inputting addresses into the maps/navigation application.

Has MMS? You might have Spring PictureMail, but it sends you to a stupid website for doing them. Was much better on a "basic" phone, as I had the same issue on my 755w, and a friend with the PalmOS version of the 755w.

I use both copy/paste and MMS fairly frequently.

Read text message I recieved yesterday
"AT&T Free Msg: Picture & video messaging (MMS) will be available for iPhone on 9/25. While we prepare your account for MMS capability, the current "view my message" experience will be turned off but your ability to send and receive text messages will not be affected."

Yeah, it's working for me now too.

Not that this was a feature that I was ever that impressed with - I'd rather email.

For a carrier settings file, go to this website http://help.benm.at while browsing on an iPhone. Scroll to the bottom and select download "Mobileconfigs" and then browse to US -> AT&T and download the config for AT&T.

Do I need 3.1 to use MMS?

No. You don't need 3.1 - in fact, based on my experience, I'm not impressed at all with 3.1. You need 3.0+ but beyond that, it's a combination of carrier settings on the phone and an entry in your customer file at AT&T. It sounds like they are rolling out the entry in the customer files this week. Or did already.

So the couple of you that have it working how did you do it? Do you have an MMS app of some kind as I don't even have an option to send MMS on my phone.

I'm curious to know this too. I followed the steps PM posted and downloaded the config for AT&T but I don't see the option anywhere to send MMS. How will AT&T "unlock" this for me? Some sort of download through itunes?

That's why I'm assuming my 3.0 isn't enough. I'm sure I'll end up losing my jailbreak to get MMS.

That's odd. I thought the carrier settings was all that it took.

Maybe Settings -> Messaging -> MMS Messaging -> On ?

Also, after you upgrade the carrier settings, try power cycling your phone.

That doesn't seem to be there on 3.0. After some googling it looks like 3.1 unlocked that option. Dammit, I hate going through this rejailbreak crap. I haven't had a single aptbackup work right.

I mess with my phone so much it's hard to know what I did to do things.

You can definitely enable MMS support on 3.0 - I managed to enable MMS support on a 2G iPhone (the original one) by modifying XML files and making a custom carrier settings file.

Ok, so reading the help.benm.at thing. Reboot the phone - hold down power and then slide to power off, and then power it back on again.

Then go to General -> Network -> Cellular Data Settings and then enter:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32

Then press home, and then back to settings and then messages and enable MMS.

I'm working off of these instructures: http://www.benm.at/ATT/
and then using bemn.at's config as the baseline (rather than the whole OSX terminal thing).

You'll know you have it when you can go to Messages, and then hit new message, and then in the middle-left opposite the "Send" button there's a little camera button.
