They seem like fun, but I have a friend who dropped out of HS to play ultima online (back in the late 90s) and it seems like some other people have EQ engulf their life. I tried WOW on a 10 day trial and its a lot of fun, debating if I should buy the game (and probably spend all winter break playing it) or just let my account lapse and play some fps games and spend most of my time out with friends instead.

If you're the type that easily gets addicted, I'd stay away from MMORPG's. They can take over your life if you're not careful. I speak from experience, Everquest (Fires of Heaven) consumed nearly 5 years of my life, and about 650 real days /played. Pathetic? It sure is, and I regret it. Just stay away if you tend to obsess over things.

that's over 8hrs/day for 5 straight years... holy S. thats like a job

Not really. You don't need to spend half an hour finding a group in order to do something on ATOT.

I love MMORPGs but don't want to shell out that much money for a game AND have to pay $15/mo just to play it. If the game was a free download and then I could try it for 10 days and then pay them the monthly fee I'd do it. But of course I'd have to update my whole computer... So then again, no.

But I played EQ for years, DAoC for a year or so.. They are a lot of fun but they aren't something you can usually play for just 30 minutes and stop. It takes that long to get a group and start killing and then you'd have to go.

Yeah, that is one of the things I love about WoW. Its very easy to get into, and put down. Things dont take forever to get accomplished, not to mention the free exp you get for NOT playing. Not to mention the lvl cap, the short distance between places, useful quests etc...Its like they went out of their way to make the game a better experience for those who dont have all the time in the world to play.

At its current rates, I can't see myself paying for it for more than 3 months (until the first exp comes out)....15 bucks a month is pretty killer.

Yea, it really was like a job. The thing is, even when EQ wasn't fun, I still logged on consistantly. Most of my friends online were the same way as me, so during the time I was caught up in EQ I figured what I was doing was normal.Actually I'm surprised it's only 8 hours a day.

Find some other games that are cheaper for the run, and you get Variety.

EV:Nova
Homeworld1/2
Descent (any of the 5 games that go by that title)
Doom3/HL2
UT2K4

Thank god SWG didn't have a level system or I would still be playing!!!

In SWG you could finish your character in about 5 days, seriously no strength bar or intelligence bar or mana pool ect.... The rest was just loot and mining and decorating your house....

The level system is evil.

Nice! What are my reward choices? :)

If I were you, I'd tank two more points and spend them on the Flamethrower of No0btorching +4. :D

LOL

I'd go with the Maul of N00bbashing, and don't foget to max out your sarcasm skill!
