I know when I played Diablo 2 I had no problems at all on 56k... but it's time for a change. I was thinking along the lines of Guild Wars or WoW? What do you think? 56k gamers... what mmorpg's do you play?:p

Guild Wars isn't an MMO, so you are fine with it.

MMORPG's only generally update once every 4 seconds, so for the most part you are still ok on dialup, but the more people on the screen the worse it gets for you. But like I said, Guild Wars isn't an MMO, so you are fine with that.

Yeah, on Diablo it wasn't that bad... just a little choppyness when a lot of stuff was going on. Do you play Guild wars? wondering if I should run and get it...

DO NOT buy WoW and go to Ironforge on 56K
I repeat: DO NOT buy WoW and go to Ironforge on 56K

It's not like an MMORPG at all. It's an RPG. The difference between an RPG and an MMORPG is that MMO's are massively multiplayer. There is no multiplayer capabilities in Morrowind at all, so it's nothing like an MMO.

Which is exactly what Kriz said.

I played Asheron's Call back in the day on a very stable 26.4 connection without any problems, other than the occasional massive lag-out.

The game has since had a graphics upgrade but it should still be alright with a 56k connection.

You will still get owned by everyone else though :p

I remember back in the day when cable was new, after I got it I was (literally) running circles around the 56kers.

A guy in my WoW guild is on 56k.
According to him, it works ok for most stuff, but he's having quite a hard time in some fights, for example Razorgore in BWL.
For those that don't know, the Razorgore fight will have(generally) 40 players, maybe 40-60 mobs(rough guesstimate), and 1 mean dragon, can also be described as a crapload of stuff on screen at once.

You can play EVE Online on a 56k. I did it for about seven months. Most of the packets aren't that large. Except DLing the patches is out of the question unless you have an alternate source to DL them, i.e. someone else's connection.

I've played WoW with people who were on 56k connections. They had major issues to say the least. I'm not sure how they managed to play the game...

If you're planning on playing WOW hardcore (ie raiding the high level content with guilds) then I would suggest against it. The game itself will get laggy, and then if you use Vent or TS, you will lag down to impossible speeds.

i know this is not wat u asked for, but y the hell do u have a 56k connetion? broadband is so cheap and once u get on it...
stop watching cable tv as computer is better anyway, and use the money for a broadband. i have a 1.5 megabit cable connection, for about 9 bucks a month!
it's not that expensive. Guild Wars is an awesome game and would run ok on a 56k, but with a broadband connetion, it's great!

Save the money that you would pay for an MMO, upgrade your connection, and buy whatever free MMO you would like.

Haha, i dunno. I am currently on a trial run of WoW, and own and played GuildWars(lvl 18 war). GuildWars was awesome because I wasn't paying for it, and i felt like I got what I paid for...just the game.
WoW though...hMm....not sure yet. Like I said, i'm on trial right now. Will probably sign up for 3 months and check it out. Have to see if it's worth the money.

I have a friend on 56k, and he plays just about anything. LIke mentioned before, a lot of problems when a lot of people are in a certain area(Ironforge or whatever comes up...frequently when peopel complain about it), however, generally as long as your computer has the right hardware to run the game smoothly, your 56k should be able to keep up as well. Expect to have some bad experiences every once in awhile though, sometimes if the servers are slow, everything just goes to hell.

Really though, you could pay a few bucks a month and get something faster than dial-up, and get a free mmo. there are a few of them out now. Isn't there Dungeons and Dragons now?(anyone???)

Yeah, forgot about that. Pathces....on 56k...is practically non-existent. Just doesn't happen. Another reason to upgrade your connection before anything else. For FFXI 56k and those patches were impossible.
