Digital CE purchased and downloading 8.32GB of data now. Looking forward to hopping into this tonight. If anyone has any suggestions as to the best east coast PvE US server to join, I'm all ears.
I rolled a Defiant Cleric on the server Endless tonight. It was PvE and was listed as "recommended", so I chose it without question (I noticed Estrael was PvE-RP and I don't care for RP). I played for about an hour or so and really explored the game through the beginning quests. My computer is getting a little long in the tooth but still seemed to run the game decently. The larger open areas bogged me down to 15fps on average, so I may back off the resolution a bit so I can still keep my max draw distance and other stuff.
I was just a few xp away from level 5 when I realized that I was on a PST server due to the clock showing server time. I'd rather be on an eastern server, so I immediately quit and will re-roll tomorrow on another server. It shouldn't take me any more than half an hour to fly through the quests back to where I was.
I started out with a Druid/Justicar build and was mowing down things fairly easily with it. When I was doing the very first quest outside, killing skeletons, a huge-ass mob came walking up the path. One guy started attacking him so I joined in and we took him down. He actually couldn't hit worth a shit and I never lost any health with my shield, but he took a while to bring down and was a pretty neat "first experience" into the game. I don't know where he come from or if he was anything special, but I liked killing some skeletons and then turning around and seeing a lumbering giant standing over twice as tall as the burned out houses in the area.
I did opt for the CE edition as well, so here's hoping the mount and extra bag space early on are worth it.
As far as the clock goes - just click on the time. It will toggle between server time and local time.![]()

I don't RP either, but went with an RP server because these days, that tends to be MMO code for "older-age, more mature players roll here."
The RP servers aren't hardcore at all. There are RP guilds of course, and people are RPing in major cities. However, nobody will jump on you for speaking out of character in general chat channels (the RPers created some RP-only chat channels that they use) or party chat. As long as you don't grief RPers, name your character something like "Legolass," or spam Chuck Norris jokes in general chat, you'll be fine.
There are also plenty of "RP is fine with us if you want to, but it's not required" types of guilds, so if RP is not your thing, you can still find a guild.
Yeah, that's how I noticed that the server time was PST. I just don't want to get into the game and level a guy all the way to max, only to find out that I'm trying to end-game with a bunch of people on the west coast.
Pretty sure all of the US servers are in Dallas.
I'm a Sab on Harrow. Pretty sure briarcliff defiant hate me atm.
Yeah Cab is a nuke/aoe cleric soul iirc - you might find shaman or druid to be a better fit. Don't go druid though, damn fairies.
DAMNIT! Another game that uses a LOT of cpu power. It barely touches my 8800GT-- with most settings turned down and some set to medium it's at about 38% GPU usage. But CPU (E6600 2.4ghz c2d) usage is pegged at 100% no matter what, and most of the time I'm getting 10-20fps. The beta ran fine...
I don't understand what makes these new games use so much power...
