SWTOR has 12x storyline XP going on for all subscribers till the end of the summer... basically should allow a character to get from 1-55 solely by doing the class storyline quests, which is really the highlight of the game.

has me thinking of resubscribing for a month or two just to play them out. my SWTOR characters all get bogged down and boring in the mid/late-20's.

at some point I should log into SWTOR again, but hearing how badly non-subscribed accounts feel has me staying away from it.

My highest char is in mid 50s, and moved him into defiance. He's an eng and had been cruisers till then.

Damage difference between cruiser and escort (and let's not talk flyability) is so absurd there's no way I'd believe it to be anywhere near that different in "actual universe".

And the new ships just make it worse. I really, really, really, want to keep liking the game but they are making it really hard.

yeah, there's some bullshit restrictions like action bars and such, although a lot of it is expanded if you spend $4.99 in the Cartel store and upgrade your account to "Preferred" (one-time upgrade, you're preferred forever)

Star Trek Online's Summer even starts today.

You can get a free endgame starship worth $20-30: (Ferengi Nandi) - http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/st...9315723-star-trek-online:-ferengi-nandi-stats

It does require a lot more work than just logging in. You need to have a character at level 10 or above, then complete a 5-minute Summer event once a day for 25 days. You have 42 days (until end of July 15th) to do this.

That's tempting because I had a level 10 ship when I quit playing (before f2p).

I bought SWTOR before it went f2p (online code if I can find it), what would that get me if I start playing (never installed it)?

The only reason to d/l the steam version I'm guessing would be if you wanted to buy some of the stuff through steam. Not sure if you ever get any better discounts over there to make that worth it though.

How long does it take to get to level 10?

I made it to level 10 (took me more than a couple hours; I guess I'm slow).

What do I do now for the event?

Go to the Risa system (straight South of Sol), beam down to the planet.

Rent a jet pack for 1,000 credits. Add it to a device slot. add that to your skill bar. Practice flying. Space bar moves you up, mouse look aims you.

Talk to the event coordinator, get the Flying High quest. Complete 3 of the fly-along-the-glowing-path sequences. Arrows on your mini-map point to the starting point for each of them. Take your time, you have plenty of time. Once you finish 3 go back and pick up your 40 points. You now need to wait 20 hours to do it again.

Repeat 25 times over 25 days.

You can earn a better, permanent jet pack for 50 "favors". You get favors for doing other things on Risa: scavenger hunt is the easiest. sandcastle pays well but there aren't enough spots to build one. You have no chance of winning the board race without a 1,000-favor board. Dance off might be winnable.

got my STO ship last night. Interesting thing was, it looks like you no longer have to redo the event (even at the reduced 1 time) on alts as once unlocked on the account those can simply go into the reputation "store" and get it themselves.

Yes, they made this change just before the Summer event started. All of your alts can now claim any "event" ship that you've earned in past Winter, Summer, Anniversary events.

FYI, now that you have the ship the Risa daily mission reward can be turned in for 40 reputation marks of your choice. It can be handy to start the Delta reputation track ahead of time since the Delta Rising story missions are gated by the reputation level. Only do the daily reputation mission (2,500 rep) not the hourly (400 rep).
