I believe that looks are part of the reason she's real big. I believe that Chris Everett was talking about her a few months back and said that she is not putting her all into tennis. Instead, she rather frolick around doing magazine shots, and modeling. When you're a tennis player, your life is 95% tennis. Anna is only giving it 80%. She could be a much better player than what she is right now and most of the experts would agree.

If I'm not mistaken, Anna is quite close to being the top money earner in tennis, not from tournaments (obviously!) but from endorsements. They had a graphic during Wimbledon, and she might even be the top earner in tennis now that I think about it.

Well, hey she's 0-78 in winning tournaments but that's ok, as long as we get down and dirty every night!

Actually, she has won a grand slam, the doubles final of the Aussie Open.

Did you know one could hypothetically number 1 in the world without ever winning a tournament. If a player was a runner up in every tournemenmt in a year, they would defenitly get the number one ranking (as long as it wasn't the same person beating him/her in every final), without actually winning a tournament.

Kournikova is ranked number 14 in the world as a singles player &amp; number 7 in the world as a doubles player. Which makes her more successful at her young age than any of here critics here on Anandtech or elsewhere in the world, will be in there whole lives (except for a couple of the sports commentators who are former champions, like McEnroe, who defines a tennis champion as someone who has won at least 2 Grandslams, sa Kournikova is half way there).

Dabanshee is right on this one. Kournikova is not only a stunning looking girl, she is ranked 14 in the world (nothing to sniff at), she is personable, wealthy, and straight.

Because of the perception that so many women athletes aren't &quot;real&quot; women, straight good looking female athletes will pick up a lot of sponsors because men will watch the commercial. This thread is an example. Her assets are obvious.

Kournikova is NOT fat at 5'8&quot; and 123 pounds. She could be 10 pounds heavier and not be fat.

I know what you mean about tennis-such a wussy sport. If they aren't being indicted for killing a wife or girlfriend, why would we want to watch them ply their trade? This problem really starts at the high school level, where skinny Honor Society Republicans pick up the game. If we could get some linebackers into tennis, I'd watch more of it. I'm sure we all want to see someone's legs broken-or at least a bloody nose or two-on the tennis court. Isn't that what Dabanshee is getting at in his post about Rugby vs. our wussy American Football?
