Yum raw eggs.

you're more likely to get struck by lightning than get sick from raw eggs.
Untrue. Odds of being struck by lightning are about 2.8 million to one. According to CDC data, one in 50 consumers could be exposed to a contaminated egg on a yearly basis.

I cook my eggs. Salmonella is not a fun bug to have unless you like massive gastrointestinal distress for a few days.

Although I trust CDC data more than what I have heard locally, up to 1 in 4 eggs is believed to be contaiminated these days. It's like russian roulette but instead of dieing you get to wish you were dead for days. Nothing like puking and the runs until you get treated with antibiotics to make life fun. If the disease runs long enough you have a good chance of ending up in the hospital from dehydration and other complications.

Yup. It's nasty as hell. One of my college roomates had it twice. Ended up in the hospital both times.

is cookie dough in icecream irradiated or something?

I'd guess they either make it without eggs or take an extra step to make sure the eggs are clean. Leaning towards the former as a likely explanation.

EDIT- Bzzzzzzzzzzt! Wrong answer. Google search reveals that they use pasteurized eggs.

Well, I guess my job's done for the day (I work for the CDC). I have informed the public of a possible health risk. Time to go home. 😛
