Very true they are great. here in colorado you can get them everywhere. but they are $$$ becasue they are are a pain in the ass to harvest.

we have lots of pinecones here, but no nuts 🙁 all the squirrels eat them

You need to pick the cones before they open, when it is still damp outside.

Then you can harvest the seeds yourself by letting the cones dry out and open. But it's a PITA to get the kernels out of the shell ....
 
They are very tasty. Back in my younger years I worked at a fancy restaurant that had them, and I'd eat handfuls of them. 😀
