It, obviously, substitutes the jelly. It's not like jelly though, more like preserves, but it has no gelatinous qualities. And it's main ingredient is.. wait for it... Apples.

It has spices in it much like Apple Cider. It's tasty stuff.

Didn't catch the "butter" part first time around. Yes I love those. Cinnamon and Clove goodness.

My mommie makes apple butter and sends me some every now and then and I eat it every day till it's gone.
Pear butter is really good as well.
If you like those two I suggest you try a good marmalade.

depending on what part of the country you are in, it is widely eaten/available in the south and northeast, not sure about the rest of the country (but as i posted above, i never heard of it as a kid in the northwest)

Yep, should be. I've seen it at most. It's usually up there with the "specialty" jelly/jams, sometimes also by the almond or cashew butter if they're in the same place.

I'm in the midwest (Michigan), I'll take a trip to the store today.

Damnit now this thread is making me hungry and I didn't have any breakfast.

I used to eat it all the time as a kid. It's great on toast.

Grew up in Ohio, found it in stores there as well as the excellent stuff my dad used to make. :)
