So I turned 21 a few days ago and some friends are taking me out for dinner. Nothing fancy or anything, probably a place like Chili's.
I know nothing about beer. What should I get? :p

If you mean by "never look back" you actually mean you'll be so repulsed by the skunky swill known as Corona that you never touch beer again....I agree with you.

Heineken, maybe a Lager. Personally - I'd go for a Long Island during happy hour (2 for 1 FTW!) :)

order a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Decent cheap beer. Budweiser is ok. Miller is worse than bud imho. Don't even touch anything from coors, unless you are a fan of piss. the same goes for corona. guiness is the bestest dark beer, a bit bitter, be warned.

Once you've had some quality Oatmeal or Chocolate stouts from a microbrew, you'll realize that Guinness is actually rather tasteless and bland.

It's okay for a widely available stout, but from a flavor standpoint, it doesn't hold a candle to *real* stouts.

I'm sorry you have not been properly educated. There are two types of Guinness available in the US. Draft stout with the nitrogen widget and extra stout in the short bottles. Comparing the two to each other or to an oatmeal or chocolate is like comparing an IPA and a pale ale. Guinness draft does not have as much flavor but is an excellent example of an dry Irish stout served with "beer gas". It also has less than 5% alcohol and only about 120 calories. A good chocolate stout will have much more flavor because of the extra stuff that goes into it and the way it's brewed. Not to mention at least 6% alcohol and probably twice the calories (at least).

For the record..........

Don't listen to the folks who tell you that Coors & Bud are piss. (Coors makes some of the *sweetest tasting* beers on the market). They're just a little too young yet to know *how* to drink beer. (Though they think they are, they are sorely mistaken but will figure it out in time).......

;)

I, myself, am not a fan of Bud's line of beers.....(select is OK, but most are too bitter and while the percentage of alcohol may be the same, they taste far worse for whatever their recipe).

If I never drank anything other than Coors Light for the rest of my life, that would be perfectly fine w/ me.

Sam Adams is good, some of the other premium beers are good beers.......(i.e. they don't skimp in the recipe's).......but you have to taste them all for yourself.

If you'd like to try a beer that's a little different than the typical Corona.........(I can handle 1 or 2 Coronas & then I need something smoother)............you could try "Pacifico" beer. It's a great recipe for just about anything. Drinking, dining, mood, etc.

When you find a beer you like, drink it. Please don't drink a beer because you everybody else is. If you taste Sam Adams & don't like it..................DON'T DRINK IT!!! DRINK SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

/thread ;)

Guinness draft in Ireland has even less alcohol than the US version.

What US available draft stout would you recommend over Guinness? Murphy's? Beamish? Those are about the only widely available that you can compare. I'd say Guinness beats the others.

Coors taste like piss, coors light is worse, imho. had them both, comparing them to Bud and PBR. PBR wins that battle hands down imho.
