EDIT: Resized pics and lowered the quality.
my friend has one.

loaded, TA 6.6 auto (means 403 olds smallblock) with low miles.

This one was for sale before but not anymore. He decided to sell his Camaro instead and use the money to retouch this one. Said it's more common to see Camaros on the roads than this one.

I have a matching numbers 70 LT1 Vette as well. It's a straight body with new factory paint and no rust, but the interior is trash. Got all of the exhaust ordered last night. Just have to install that and replace the windshield and it will be inspection ready.

It needs a lot, hopefully it will be done by this time next year.

A good friend of mine had a '78 Gold Special Edition with the Pontiac 400 & 4 speed manual ... it might not have been the fastest thing on the road, but it was a really sweet car.

The majority of the 1979 models had an Oldsmobile 403 motor with an automatic transmission, those had "6.6 LITER" on the hood scoop.
All correct, except that there really is no "big block" Pontiac engine. They are all the same size externally. Most of the parts even interchange.
1979 was indeed the last year of the 400 or 403 engines.
All the 400's were 4 speeds. They actually stopped building them in 1978, the ones in the 1979 TA's were leftovers.

The 70-81 Trans Am is, IMO, the best-looking car, EVER. Every year of these looked far better than the corresponding Camaro, which was the same basic car.

I know a guy who has a 1979 Bandit Edition, with the 400 and T-Tops.....and sooner or later I'm going to convince him to sell it to me.

And maybe one day I'll get around to restoring my basket-case 1976 Hurst Special Edition, the first year of the Special Edition and 1 of about 2400 made.
They called them Bandit Editions later after the movie came out.

What a mistake that was. Real Super Duty Trans Am's go for well over 50k now. Only 1200 made in 73-74.

Edit: BTW, I know a guy who has been collecting and basically hoarding Pontiac parts since the 70's.
He has, I think, 4 or 5 Super Duty Trans Am's. Ridiculous. And he does nothing with them, ever, to my knowledge.

455 was available from 1971-1976 only. The SD's that were referred to were in 73-74.
In 71-72, there was an HO-455, and in all the 455 years, there was always a regular 455.

Oh, yeah. The SD's were absolute beasts. The HO's were right there, too. Even the plain-Jane 455 was no slouch.
