I enjoy Tomato Soup with a piece of bread in it, topped with a single slice of american cheese.

That sounds like a cheap man's French Onion soup. 😕

Can american cheese really even be called CHEESE?

I mean come on, its no GOUDA!!!😀

You gotta make grilled cheese with butter otherwise the bread gets kinda soggy. A dash of salt on one side of the GC makes it tastier.

On the Tomato soup front, some of those Pepperidge Farms cheese fish crackers are awesome. Also, you gotta make tomato soup with more milk than water, otherwise it's not that good.

We bought a Paninni grill & have modified our sammiches to include a meat & cheese panninni sammich.

Ham, swiss, sharp cheddar, turkey on sourdough with tomato soup rules.

But, there's no onions! or onion broth! and no crock to scrape clean afterwards!
Trust me, it tastes good 🙂 My mom used to make it for me after I came in from playing in the snow... back when I was a wee lad.

yep. mostly milk.

great combo

Good stuff.

The key to making a good grilled cheese is to very lightly spread the butter over entire slices of bread (only one side though of course), then grill quickly in a preheated skillet at med-high heat. This way the bread comes out perfectly grilled and not greasy, and the cheese melts quickly without becoming greasy or making the bread soggy.

The tomato soup (if condensed) should be made with both milk and water, and basil (preferably fresh) should be added and slowly simmered in.

Enjoy. This has been a favorite lunch of mine dating all the way back to early childhood.

grilled cheese using muenster, with a slice of tomato and some lettuce and red onion, on sourdough, with some wolfgang puck tomato basil soup mmmm
