Head over to the Rage3d forums to download the new MMC 7.5...it's awesome it should be an 8.x release! Works fine on the "old" AIW Radeons🙂

List of improvements!

1) Record to Windows Media Format AND ATI Digital VCR format (which has GREAT quality at reasonable bitrates...I'm impressed)

2) A new GUI that looks much nicer than the old one

3) MPEG-2 capture has an enormous performance boost - I can capture at 720x480 MPEG-2 full IBP frame compression now with about 1% frame drops in my limited testing! Previously I would get about 15% frame drops.

4) Transparent TV - although I haven't been able to get this to work in win2k.

5) Tighter integration with Guide+

where exactly did u get it?

and the site i am getting it from is takin forever

have a faster one?

oh and one more question did u just install over the old mmc or go through tthe whole drawn out process of uninstallin it?

ftp://atimmc:radeonfaq@216.227.18.113:2001

There is a password on the archived file - it is 'rage3d'.

Yes, I uninstalled the old MMC completely first....no matter how good ATI's drivers have gotten for the Radeon, they've never really had good setup applications for their driver/apps, so I thought I'd go the long route and be 100% sure it was a clean install.

GL, what kind of computer is this??

as u know much of the encoding process is done on the CPU, though I believe u when u say that they sped things up (the video card can and does help out by offloading the CPU from decoding the incoming signals), but I'd like to know what kind of CPU power u were running.

FULL 720x480 in MPEG2? that's some sweet stuff!

Is this one only for the AIW, or for all radeons? Ive been trying to get a latest version of MMC for my Radeon LE (tweaked) but I cant find one that doesnt ask for some sort of registration code or something...which I dont understand since this is supposed to come with Radeon cards but mine didnt come with one at all..

i think tsi only for the AIW cuz on our dirver cd there is a cd key tht u need to install the dvd software

Get this...I don't even have a super duper computer😉

I've got a P3 800 o/c to 960 (120MHz FSB) with PC133 SDRAM on an Asus CUV4X (Via Apollo Pro 133a) running Windows 2000 SP2 w/ DX 8.1. Apparently the codec or MMC itself has been holding back the recording potential - ATI did originally state a 700MHz P3 would be sufficient to do 720x480 MPEG-2 capture but they've finally delivered on this promise.

I have found a bug though. The new ATI VCR format is simply a modified MPEG-2 capture format. It actually even records the closed captioning subtitles! However, I can only get proper playback with this format. If I record straight to MPEG-2 and playback the file, my audio's pitch is distorted. This problem was present in MMC 7.2 as well. Apparently it's a SBLive/VIA issue but it'd be nice to get it resolved. I think the problem is on the playback end because when I convert a .vcr file to a .mp2 the audio is distorted in the .mp2 file whereas it is fien in the .vcr file. It's not a big issue for me since I use my AIW as a tivo so I don't archive the files, but it could cause problems for others who wish to archive to .mp2 format.

Here are some other added features I've come across (i'll continue from the first list):

6) You can now set the max file size for a recording. For example, if you set it to 700MB CDR, when you record, the MMC will record up to 700MB in one file and if it still must record, it'll create additional files each being no larger than the max size you've requested. This is sort of like AVI/IO functionality.

7) In TV-on-Demand mode, you can watch the live video feed AND your time-delayed video feed simultaneously. This is one of those small features that can come in very handy - i.e. if I've paused the TV for only a minute or two watching a basketball game, I can take a look at the live feed to see if I should even bother watching in a time-delayed fashion or just skip to the live feed.

8) Motion-activated video capture. I'm not sure exactly what this is, but I assume you could hook a camera up to your AIW Radeon and the AIW would start recording only if it detected movement within a video frame - great for a security camera setup.

9) The DVD Player which is now at version 7.5 now has some new features. I'm not terribly familiar with the audio side of things but I think it will now decode Dolby Digital 5.1 and downmix it to stereo. You can also tell the DVD player to pass the audio through to another audio device such as the onboard Rage Theatre Audio chip.

10) There's a new Library program which I find not very useful but others may. It just lists your media files. However, it has to be used to convert ATI VCR files (.vcr) to standard MPEG-2 (.mp2) files. The VCR file format seems to be a superset of the MPEG-2 format, so conversion is extremely fast as no re-encoding seems to be done - just reformatting of the physical file layout I believe.

<< Will this work on the TV Wonder VE PCI? >>

I don't think so, but I'm not certain about this. I think the MMC for TV Wonders is different from that for the AIW series. But if you've managed to get previous AIW MMC versions to run on a TV Wonder VE, it could potentially work. There is an option in the control panel to select which TV Tuner the MMC uses, so theoretically it could be used with a TV tuner that's different from the AIW's tuner.

I hope this means that they will be releasing the AIW 8500DV in a few days. Maybe they were just waiting to get all the software working correctly before they released it.

You're really asking for it now. 😉

EDIT: 🙁

The FTP server was too busy while trying to retrieve the URL: ftp://mmc@24.157.21.76/Stuff/mmc7_5.rar

Squid sent the following FTP command:

PASS
and then received this reply
Too many connections from your IP address. Goodbye

Try toggling PASV mode on/off...there is only one connection per IP allowed but if you get stuck on the site as idle because of PASV problems, you might be getting this error when you try to logon.

hey GL

u just uninstalled the ati mmc and the dvd right?

cuz my add/remove programs is showing those two and the ati diplay adapters.

Yes. You don't have to mess with the drivers, just uninstall the DVD Player and MMC.

hey GL

did u have any troubles with the mmc 7.5?

my ssytem keeps crashing when i try to run the tv.

what version of the drivers are u using?

I'm using the 3226 beta drivers. They seem to be better for AIW Radeons than the 3276 official drivers ATI has on their site. I'll put the 3226 beta drivers on my FTP in case you need them. But no, my setup is 100% stable with MMC 7.5. The only thing I can't get to work is the transparent TV.
