Hopefully we only have to wait a month or two before they put someone legitimate in with Kimbo. He looks pretty good standing and throwing bombs. I think he'd be screwed against any average UFC fighter though.

Kimbo demolished Tank. Tank even landed some of his punches directly to Kimbo's jaw and he took it like a champ.

Kimbo has slimmed down considerably from his street fighting days; he went from 260 lbs to 232 lbs, looks lean as hell now and is getting trained by Bas Rutten. Kimbo has extreme durability from his street fighting days.

you think he's actually got some ground skills? i haven't watched many of his internet fights but i was just curious if he's got a rounded style or not.

I'm sure under the training of Bas, he picked up some ground game. The basic mechanics are easy to learn and master especially if you're as athletic as Kimbo. I'd be surprised to see him completely vulnerable on the ground - ie: completely useless in MMA

sure he is not useless. but agaisnt most MMA fighters he is ogign to have a big problem.

but he should have the basics down pretty well.

while good he beat Tank that is not t hat impressive. he still needs to fight someone who is not just there for a paycheck. him and brock lesner would be great heh

well give the guy credit, he has fought 2 fights, and even though his opponents weren't very good, they had a LOT more experience. you can't expect kimbo to fight the best guys right away, it's only fair to let him gain some experience, because yeah, he would probably get dominated on the ground at this point

i hope he does get the experience necessary to land a big fight. i'm intrigued by his history of streetfighting. there's something to be said about the toughness gained there. like when Liddell was pounding the crap out of Silva, but he was still standing there throwing counterpunches, as wild and sloppy as they were. that kind of toughness is neat to see in action. i think they said Silva was in 200 streetfights or some ungodly number.

I'd like to see him fight Anderson Silva. Could his "toughness" and size make up for the fact that Silva just destroys everyone? The 60+ lb weight difference might give him a chance...

Adding in his Tank Abbott fight, he has what, 45 seconds of fight experience now? It is all just fluff until he fights a non-fish with some grappling skills.

his internet fights all took place before he started to train MMA, there was never ground action in his fights, all stand up. That said training hard with Bas has given him some weapons for his arsenal. With 1 year of training I wouldn't expect him to be a ground expert, but he is training BJJ and according to Bas Kimbo is very dedicated and picks up on things well. He should already have some decent submission defense and with how hard he hits, his ground and pound should be pretty good.

I wouldn't be surprised if in another year or year and a half he gives anyone trouble. His standup is pretty good, punches look crisp and he is very quick for a man his size. He KO'ed Tank hard, Tank has fought some of the best hitters in MMA and stood and banged, even when he lost to them. It's impressive how he had Tank out cold, shows me he's a hard hitter. I never expected Tank to win, but I did expect Tank to put up a bigger fight.

exactly. they got a hasbeen (even in his prime he was not great) who has NO ground skill. tank is perfect for Kimbo. he wins he get credibility as a MMA fighter.

Tank has always had one punch KO power, he did KO Cabbage (his last win) Cabbage is pretty damn tough, even if he's lost quite a few of his fights. Cabbage typically doesn't get KO'ed

Kimbo has the edge for age and size, but never count out Tank.

With that said, I feel Kimbo will take it, but if Abbott unloads one of his nuclear warhead fists and actually connects it might be over. Kimbo's never been hit that hard and I don't know if he could survive. As quick and strong as Kimbo is, his toughness and jaw have never been tested. I want Tank to connect with a full blow, if Kimbo can withstand that we have the future HW champ. Kimbo will probably go on to dominate the division but if he can absorb one of Tanks hooks it'll prove to me he is as bad as I think.

I think win or loose for Tank this will be his last fight.

to squisher, if Kimbo wasn't known for his online brawls nobody would be commenting on the quality of his opponents. He shouldn't be fighting the best in MMA, he needs to train just like any other new fighter would. Cantrell was 10-10 or something? But he had 20 fights before he faced Kimbo. Kimbo has to work his way up to fight somebody worthy. Tank is actually a good stepping stone for him. Record and age aside, nobody hits as hard as Tank, and Kimbo needs to be hit so everyone can see if he's legit.

It's more a reaction to EliteXC promoting Kimbo like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I understand that they're trying to compete with the UFC and you need to promote your guys, but, Kimbo really hasn't done anything (yet) to warrant the attention. No, he shouldn't fight the best guys out there right away, but he also shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath with the top guys, either.

they're pushing him because he's a star, I chatted with a few people who attended the event live. They had also gone to WEC/UFC shows and said the crowd reception when Kimbo came out was like nothing they've ever heard. One guy said it was louder than when he was at a UFC show and Tito came out to fight. Kimbo has a sick following, weather he's deserving of it or not remains to be seen. But the fans love him and right now he's best thing Elite has.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say in 2 years if Kimbo is dominating the HW division Dana White will do whatever it takes to scoop him up and bring him to UFC.
