MLK Day. :)

It, like all the Monday holidays, is a stupid idea. We sacrifice productivity because the government wants a day off.

JayPatel,

Please show me where I said celebrating his life was a stupid idea. Here's a clue: HE WASN'T BORN ON A MONDAY.

Shux,

Christmas is NOT a Monday holiday. It falls on the 25th every December, no matter what day of the week that happens to be. It's you who's chewing on his foot.

😉 😉 😉 There, I forgot the wink grumpy. X-mas was on a monday this year,

<< Yeah, Christmas was stupid this year - shuxclams Date Posted: Jan/15/2001 3:55 AM >>

Should have added a 😉 and underlined "this year". So sorry. 😀

gee Russ i dont know where i got that idea from. Perhaps you need to better phrase your words then....would you rather have it on a Saturday?

I would rather have it fall on his REAL birthday each year, instead of the third Monday in January. The only reason it's on a Monday is so people can have a 3 day weekend. I guess it's not possible to celebrate his achievements unless that celebration comes with a day off.

The same holds true for every Monday holiday. It is hypocritical pandering to a populace that thinks that somehow a day off is actually a tribute to great historical figures.

Anyhow........

All you Americans have a great Monday 😀 I'll see you on the streets of Vancouver, BC as I go to work 😉

Cheers,
Aquaman

The problem I have with monday being a holiday, is that come tuesday, I have twice as many packages to drag into the post office, and wait in line with all the nitwits. 🙁

But Russ, if it fell mid week people would spend the afternoon of the day winding down for it and the morning of the day after getting back into the swing of things. net loss 2 days. Well, i damn well would. Put it mon/fri and its just like a bit of the weekend.

Hell, if it was Tuesday i would spend monday morning getting my desk messy again, then the afternoon tidying it up.

Grumpy old miser. 🙂

Wait a minute here! If the Government employess are home today them US production goes up! However since both the lazy Government workers, or should we call them employess since work would be abuse, and the lazy Union employess are off, everyone that does the real work, such as myself, are off as well....unpaid I might add..:disgust:

MLKs birth date is January 15, 1929 and this year, it happens to fall on the 3rd Monday of January. I?m not sure how often this occurs? but in the year 2001? it?s the real thing.

🙂

Russ, that may be true, but I'm not going to argue with a day off! If lazy government employees wanna close school for the day, then so be it.

Chuckling at Tominator! HOW TRUE! 😛

I skipped out of work too, since my family is home. Glad retail is not "celebrating a great man" today. I still got Christmas junk to return...

I agree with Russ. The hypocracy of these "Monday holidays" overshadows the true meaning. Many people view Memorial Day as nothing more than a day off from work which yields a 3-day weekend. Unfortunately, many also view MLK day in the same manner.

Some of us are still at work. 😉

Got MLK?

amish

btw- I think it's ok to relegate the "holiday" to a certain day of the week. It'd really suck for it to fall on a Wednesday....
