I have no problem with this for a couple reasons:

1) They already said the wild card series would not add time to the already long MLB postseason.

2) Whether it's a 1 or 3 game playoff between the wildcards, it still penalizes the wild card team for not winning their division. What this means is that they wont start the next series with their best pitchers since there will be no time off. It adds more value to the regular season games and provides more incentive to win their division.

3) Obviously, adding 2 more teams to make 10 total is going to generate more interest in the sport because 33% of the teams will have a shot. This is still much lower than 50% of the league like the NHL and NBA.

Playoffs should NOT be expanded.

What happens especially in the NBA & NHL, the "playoff race" near the end of the seasons are jokes, they are competitions to determine which team will have the honor in losing the first playoff round.

At least in baseball every team who makes the playoffs has a legitimate chance at winning the World Series. The races all have value.

Expand the playoffs and cheapen the season.

That is the way it used to happen. There were only two teams in the playoffs when the Tigers won the series in '68.

I like the designated hitter. I think it's awesome that there is such a distinct rule difference between the 2 leagues. It gives baseball some character that the other sports lack.

As for adding playoffs, I'm ok with it only if they do a best of 3 series for wild card teams and give the non wildcard teams a bye.

Yep, a 3 game series would be optimal so it penalizes the wild card by not allowing them to start their best pitchers (more than one) for the next series. As a result, the wild card will be a true "underdog" and it really opens the door for a Cinderella.

Imagine the Yanks winning the Wild Card but having to burn CC and AJ Burnett with no time to rest them before the next series (where they'll have to play the best team in the AL). It really pushes teams to win their divisions because nobody wants to be in that situation. It should be harder for wild card winners since they weren't the best in their division.

How would that not lead to tanking? Take the NBA, if you're going to be an 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs, but probably get ousted in the first round, it would be far easier to manipulate your way into that #1 pick than it is with the lottery type systems. I wouldn't put that past many teams, especially if there is a really special player available at #1, and how easily a great player can completely change a franchise (especially one already good enough to be an 8th seed) At least with the draft lottery you're not even guaranteed the top pick even if you have the worst record. Since the NBA changed the lottery system in 1990 the team with the worst record has only won twice.

Really? Why would any team deliberately miss the playoffs? I like the way the NBA does it now. The lottery selection is a good idea. Teams still tank to get that extra ping pong ball but it rarely works out for them.

As for baseball, the more the merrier. I like the idea of more teams in the playoffs. I don't even pay attention to baseball until the playoff start anyway... and even then... meh.
