MLB: NY Mets: The Official Thread - the last one was BAD luck!

Whatever! I meant to say Brew Crew... they just won 3-1 and are 1/2 game ahead of Mets.

Anyway, Mets are 3 outs from another "back luck" season. KEK

ah well. Season is over. A very up and down season and probably the worst bullpen the Mets have had in a very long time. Amazing how inept they were. For some ungodly reason Omar received a 4 year extension and when that becomes official he has a LOT of work to do.

I'm really not so upset at all. This team has had so many chances, so many games blown by the pen and a very inconsistent offense.

Goodbye fellow Mets fans and goodbye Shea Stadium. You are a dump but you are our dump. Can I press the button to blow it up? 😀

Lets face it. Baseball has too long a season. Play the playoffs in September. Last game of the season is going to be Labor Day. Who's with me?

(Pretty much all of the Mets fans and Brewers fans on Anandtech I assume!)

Well Los Mets losing two years in a row like that is still not why I'm with you... the season really is too long.

You have to admire the Mets for their consistency. Very few teams in history have followed a monumental choke job with another major choke the next season.

Santana was great, nobody else on the team was worth a damn. And how about some props for Sabathia? He picked up the Brewers, put them on his shoulders and almost single-handedly carried them to the playoffs.

Man, its rough for you Mets fans. I bet they cant tear Shea down fast enough!

They will start to tear it down in 15 days. Can I press the button?? 😀

Yep, inconsistent offense and of course the pig pen gave up homers. Typical 2008 Mets game! Johan was amazing and now we saw how amazing CC Sabathia is. I think the Yanks will do all they can to overpay for him.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm a bit surprised by the outcome today ... this team is missing somthing intangible beyond the obvious flaws & before next season its time for serious changes from top to bottom.

I'm just glad I got to say my goodbyes to Shea stadium yesterday on a positive note thanks to Johan. I've been to well over 300 Mets home-games there from my first professional baseball game with my dad in 1972 to my younger daughters last season & while everything else in my life has changed, coming back to Shea every spring always felt like coming home again ... I'll miss the old girl. (sniff)

Meanwhile after much deliberation, I've decided to jump on the Manny/Torre bandwagon & root for the Dodgers to win the NL. (old NL-East related issues prevent me from rooting for the Cubs no matter how long its been since they last won)

See you next season at Citi Field & GO DODGERS!!!

While I fully understand your frustration (I'm a Philadelphia sports fan, we specialize in it), there are several players on the Mets that are more than worth a damn . . . David Wright, Carlos Delgado . . . Carlos Beltran ain't dogmeat . . . and even the meathead boy wonder, Jose Reyes.

And I wouldn't mind having John Maine or Oliver Perez in our rotation.

One last thing . . . I believe that if Pedro Martinez puts his mind to it, he has the chops to be a highly successful change-of-location, change-of-speed finesse pitcher.

I think Pedro is finished. Oliver Perez has been so-so at best after his breakout year of 04 (on my fantasy team that year). The guy just walks way too many batters. The Maine injury was bad timing.

Can't believe they had the memorial/celebration after the loss. What a joke.

This team is just meant to break hearts, and only that.

Rollins and the Phillies and Hanley and the Marlins officially own us.. can't say anything worth a damn to them.

The team is great on paper, but even if the bullpen sucks, there is no excuse for that (or any "playoff" offense) to score
so few runs in so many games. Wright and Reyes are just not clutch. Beltran and Delgado offer plenty more to this team.

The rotation is fine. Santana, Maine, Perez, Pelfrey and Pedro match up as good or better than almost any team in the league.

Gonna be a longgg off season....

Ugh, guess it doesn't hurt as bad the second time around...

So, who's gone after this season?
Alou? Heh. Yup
Pedro Martinez? Probably
Castillo? I wish.
Perez? Not sure. Guess it depends how much Boras wants

And will someone please fix that awful bullpen.

I've got 4 tickets to Home Game 1 at Shea for the NLDS....any takers? I'll give $10 off face value! What a deal!

At least you can get rid of that gawd awful gm that did just slightly more than jack shit to fix the pitching staff.

Omar Minaya supposedly had his contract extended for 4 years. LOL LAWL Only the Mets would give an extension to the architect of 2 epic and embarrassing failures in a row. I want to work for the Mets.

He should have been fired and while I like Jerry Manuel I think after these two season he needs to go too. The team needs a fresh makeover when they move to the new stadium.

Only Joe Smith survives the pen. Luis Castillo is out, Easley is a gamer but he's too old, Pedro is gone, move Murphy to second base or try to find a good second baseman, Ollie Perez is out (he'll command too much $$$), get a better bench (only keep Evans and Endy), give Fernando Martinez a shot to make the team, give Niese a shot to be the #5 starter...etc. What a mess. Omar has a LOT of work to do. 4 year extension and same manager. lol my god man..

Omar Minaya got the talent there. The players just didn't put up when the pressure was on. BTW, a healthy Billy Wagner would have put the Mets into the playoffs with a couple games to spare.
