I refuse to blame Glavine and Heilman for these last two losses. The saturday game was just poor all around. The defense was just AWFUL with Delgado doing his best stone hands performance. The Green error wasn't nice either but at least he's been hitting very well (may be the second best hitter at the moment after Reyes!).

As for today the Mets had ample opportunities to bring in runs. They had Reyes at 3rd with no one out and they couldn't even bring him home. Now THAT annoys me more than what Heilman did. If Heilman got beat he got beat..what can ya do?? The Mets start their first home series of the season with a 4-2 record and I am happy with that.

I got tickets to the home opener (upper deckers) so I get to boo Rollins plenty. It'll be Maine vs Hamels. Should be a good matchup.

man the mets are really good at these big innings in the 2nd half of games, it kinda worries me though, can't keep hoping for 1 or 2 big innings late in games

yeah, nice collapse by the Phillies bullpen 😀

Maine really struggled, but at least kept it close. Burgos did pretty well and was unlucky to hang that one pitch to Howard.

So who's getting cut to make way for Pelfrey...I guess Lastings must be the favorite, feel bad for him after that excellent spring

Today was a prime example of why Pittsburgh gave up on Perez. He has no consistancy whatsoever. He's either awesome or hideous. Never seems to be any middle ground with him. Sele did well but its really annoying when a mediocre, injury prone bum like Adam Eaton beats the mets.

Welcome aboard (to both ATOT and the Mets thread!).

Perez is truly Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Pelfrey has not pitched will in his short minors stint but hopefully against a horrendous Nationals club he can pitch well and get some run support.

Ya have to admire Moyers and how this "old man" continues to do the job with 75mph breaking stuff with fastballs that aren't much faster than that. He could probably pitch till his 50's.

I must say I am very impressed by Valentin...picking up where he left off last year.

Last night he had an awesome game, his defence has been excellent all season, but he is starting to hit more and had a very nice slide at home plate last night.

So the Mets FINALLY tee off of Dontrelle who usually just owns the Mets (with his arm AND bat). Maine pitched well and bounced back after his last start which wasn't so hot. Everyone is now hitting and of course when Reyes is on base..things happen! I agree about Valentin. Its nice to see him finally hit the ball but his defense has just been fantastic since the first game of the season.

The Mets bullpen statistically is the BEST in the majors at the moment and they are flying under the radar (good). Joe Smith has been outstanding but he's just a kid so I hope they are watching him as the season goes on to make sure he can handle the load.

Tonight El Duque pitches and he was just awful in his last start so its time to turn that around and I think he'll do well in the nice warm Florida night.

big win by the Braves, over the mets no less. 😉

but seriously, if the braves don't do something about the back end of their rotation, their season will end very very quickly. 3 runs given up again in the 9th, 🙁

doh...Heilman giving up a 3 run homer to the braves in the 8th...boo

A disaster of a game for the Mets. Green should have caught the ball in the 6th then that piece of crap Schoeneweis gives up a 3 run homer to Renteria. Why did the Mets give him a three year deal?? He is mediocre at best. Next up you see Valentin missing a play (they say bad hop but please..he should have made that play) and then Bileman with his tender elbow gives up a 3 run homer to a dude named Kelly.

I have to give credit to the Braves for taking full advantage of misplays by the Mets. When you have errors or misplays you better be sure the other team will do their best to take advantage.

So brutal when you see how nicely the Mets got to Smoltz.

go Braves!

ok ..still early in the season brother.. 😎

Braves are better lineup wise this season as long as Larry stays healthy compared to last season. I'm not sold on the revamped Braves bullpen and I wouldn't trust Wickman in a big spot (he made things a bit interesting in the 9th). I am surprised by Hudson's resurgance. Most pegged him to be down and out but he looks fantastic so far. Mets were simply sloppy and good teams take advantage of teams that blows simple plays.

Back to the Mets...I still think Schoeneweis stinks and Heilman is going to have some serious issues. His pitches are up in the zone and his tender elbow doesn't help. I cringe when I see Ambiorix on the mound though he was good today.

I'm a bit concerned with David Wright. Only 4 rbi and it looks like pitchers have adjusted to Wright. In turn Wright must now readjust. Same thing happened with Reyes. Pitchers got to him and now Reyes doesn't flail away at poor pitches like he used to. David also has some hideous new cleats.

Delgado's power outage is a slight concern but he's a pro so I know he'll get out of it.

WTF is going on with Pelfrey?

After a very impressive spring, he has stunk.
Each start he has gotten worse.

He better get a grip soon or he'll be sent back down to New Orleans....I hear Sosa has been ripping it up down there

another great effort from Maine

but WHAT is going on with Heilman?
Almost lost the game last night until Franco saved his butt, then tried his best to throw it away again today....man, hurry back Mota!

Maine has been really great so far.

Heilman has been awful and is lucky he hasn't been tagged for more runs. His pitches are too up in the zone and who knows if its mental, physical (his elbow acting up) or both. Ron Darling mentions how Heilman just doesn't look right this season and I guess the Mets are just waiting for some huge implosion before trying anything with him.

This series with the Nats was really annoying. Good pitching but some horrendous siutational hitting. How many times will the Mets leave guys in scoring position with less than 2 outs??? Its ridiculous how many times they have a runner on third with 1 out and they can't even bring him home.

Now it seems like El Duque has tightness in his shoulder and Jorge Sosa may come up to replace him. This is kinda expected with El Duque but he was supposed to start tomorrow against the Marlins. Who knows what'll happen now. Not sure how long Valentin will be out but Easley has done a nice job in his place.

Wright and Delgado continue to look awful at the place. Its really troubling especially for Wright.

Well it's official....El Duque has been placed on the DL, Park is called up to replace him tonight against the Fish.

Gotta feel bad for Sosa who has been playing great down there, but he pitched yesterday (another 6 shoutout innings, now 1.13 ERA) or otherwise he surely would have gotten the call....watch your back Pelfrey 😉
