Hell no.. I think Lastings has the talent to be an excellent player and making him trade bait is ridiculous. Green is done and I think Milledge will patrol right field by August. Carlos Gomez could be the left fielder next season and in a few years you have the fine, young Mike Carp who has impressed some people (and is only 20 I think).

As for the rotation..if the stars align perfectly the Mets could have one of the younger rotations with Maine, Perez, Pelfrey and Humber that could potentially last for YEARS. On top of that Maine, Perez and Pelfrey have been GREAT this ST and Humber just needs a year in AAA to get more experience in his arm. The bullpen will be fine with Wagner, Heilman, Schoenewies, Feliciano plus you have Joe Smith who has looked great, Dirty and Mota in the future and don't forget Juan Padilla!

I worry more about El Duque then the kids when it comes to the starting rotation. The Mets could go from old to very young in one year.

nice job by Sele today against the Braves......long reliever perhaps?

Wagner really stunk it up with a 5 run meltdown though :disgust:

Sucks about Sanchez. He didn't do much during rehab, got fat and was late a few times and it got so bad that he was called in by management and had to apologize to his teammates. He showed poor work ethic and now he needs surgery again. I wonder if it could have been avoided it if he followed his rehab assignment or maybe everything was just worse then anticipated. <sigh> oh well.

Pelfrey getting the 5th spot and Joe Smith making the team was great to hear though.

the doctors say that Sanchez's fracture "may" have been caused in the car accident, they just never caught it until now ....now he has to get it screwed back together <sigh>

when is Padilla due back?

mmm..not sure. He did pitch a bit during ST and they never said he had any problems. Guess it should be by the time Mota comes back I assume. He would be a welcome addition if he pitches like he did in 05.

Sounds like a Pavano!

The Mets on Tuesday inquired about the availability of Orioles reliever Todd Williams, according to a baseball source. -Washington Post

I assume Park woudl be the obvious candidate to be traded if they are looking at a proven reliever?

Milledge and Burgos made the team. Adkins and Park are in AAA (Park accepted the assignment).

Spring Training is complete!! Final rosters are set and the Mets have a special exhibition game tomorrow against the Devil Rays at Tropicana (not on TV!! OY!! Its on mlb.tv though)

Here it is folks..the Opening Day roster:

Infield: Delgado, Valentin, Reyes, Wright and LoDuca

Outfield: Green, Beltran and Alou

Rotation: Glavine, Hernandez, Maine, Perez and Pelfrey (Pelfrey will not be officially on the roster but will get called up mid April..someone on the bench gets sent down)

Bullpen: Wagner, Schoeneweis, Heilman, Feliciano, Smith, Burgos and Sele

Bench: Castro, Newhan, Milledge, Chavez, Franco and Easley

Its time for baseball!! Lets go Mets!

Great news about Milledge and Smith, they have earned their chance. Shawn Green better find his swing quickly or he will be the one bench warming.

Not sure Burgos is ready yet, Park may have been a safer bet....
But keeping Burgos around means he can benefit from Peterson's guidance....and it gives them something different out of the pen.

Is Park going to be starting or relieving in AAA?

I assume starting as I doubt he would have agreed to a minor league reliever situation since there are teams out there that need starters. If Sele stinks it up or if a starter gets hurt then Park will get the call.

Green definitely better hit. I think the fans patience will be very low with him since Lastings made the team. I'm not letting Alou go either. He looked like he just wanted to get spring training over with. Hopefully he'll turn on the lights once the season starts.

I wasn't able to watch the game due to work but I was happy when I turned on the radio to
WFAN to hear a happy recap!!! I saw some highlights and wow...the defense was solid gold! How 'bout Valentin?? Man..I think he will be just as good this season as he was last year. Of course Beltran with that awesome throw home to get the pesky Eckstein.

So far so good Mets fans!!!

The defense was spectacular.
Alou with a diving catch, Beltran firing a strike to Lo Duca from shallow center, 4 double plays.

First two games are in the books..under the win column! Great performance by El Duque with the arm and the bat! Huge moment in the 8th with two men on and Pujols at the plate but Heilman gets him to pop up to end the inning. Wagner with a fine 9th and all is well.

Mets go for the sweep with John Maine on the mound. Braden Looper makes his first start of the season. Lets go Mets!

that little turd Eckstein really irritates me

leaning in on breaking pitches to get hit...man, someone needs to brush a heater by his nose and make him think twice :disgust:

I love watching El-Duque pitch, when he's on his game he just makes it looks so easy

yes, awesome stuff....you see spring training means nothing 😉

Maine looked very strong, probably could have closed it out himself, but nice to see Burgos and Sele get nice easy debuts.

Also good to see Beltran hit a couple out of the park

Bring on the Braves!

Mets put a beating on the Braves tonight and Oliver Perez was just excellent.

Tomorrow will showcase an old school matchup with Glavine vs Smoltz. Should be fun!

the mets are just blowing up in the late innings, the last 2 games were close games until like the 6th and then became totally lopsided.

once through our rotation and I am already feeling a lot better then before the season started

Glavine always seems to suck against the Braves :disgust:

After getting used to the excellent commentary team on SNY, watching that game on FOX was painful, sheesh....had to mute the TV
