MLB: NL MVP & Triple Crown & NL Cy Young

Who do you think it is going to be?

My Vote Goes to Pujols, No One, and Carpenter. Before August however, i would have said (although i want Pujols) Derrek Lee. While he is slumping a lot right now (That measley little .351BA, 2nd in HR's, and 3rd in RBI's 😛) he still has a VERY good shot at taking both.

Cabrera, is doing very well, and im beginning to wonder if he could be a contender for the triple crown.

As for the Cy Young Award, it has to be between Carpenter and Clemens. Dontrelle screwed up late in the season (as always). Clemens has been phenomonal though. Although he doesn't have as many wins (Hitting wasn't too hot at the beginning so no run support), his ERA is unreal. It is approaching Bob Gibsons legendary ERA. Someone i neglected to mention was Roy Oswalt. I dont think he is a serious contender for this. He consistently wins a lot, but Clemens and Carpenter seem to have the light right now.

Edit: THIS IS WHO DO YOU THINK, NOT WHO DO YOU WANT

Derrek Lee will not win it because his team will not make the playoffs.

🙁 :|

While i want Pujols, Derrek Lee is an AWESOME player, and i wouldn't be too surprised if he managed to pull it off. I would rather see Lee take it than Jones (Dont get me wrong, he is a good player and all, but i dont like some other stuff...)

The only time a player that was on a bad team won MLP was Arod for the Rangers, and that was because of a freak year when nobody else had anything close to MVP numbers.

I forgot to touch on Andruw for the NL MVP. While he is an excellent player, and there is the fact that i dont care for some things in general about Atlanta (Andruw could be fine, so you can disregard if you want), i dont think Andruw is MVP worthy. This year, he has hit a ML leading number of home runs. That is it. Lee and Pujols (and perhaps Cabrera) have not only hit nearly that many HR's, but they have the BA, the RBI's, the SLG, the OBP etc... I just dont see Andruw as worthy of the MVP.

As for Andruw and the Silver Slugger award, well that is a different story. If he continues to blast the HR's i think he is definitely one of if not the top candidate for Silver Slugger.

Don't forget that the term "Most Valuable Player" is not just about statistics. Andruw has really taken a leadership role this year, and is becoming what everyone has expected all these years. His numbers might not be there, but without him, the Braves certainly would not be a contender this season.

That being said, I don't think he deserves it yet. We'll see how the rest of the season goes.

theres still a couple months in the season, and i hate so many choices for one question, but for the pitchers i still think pedro and peavy still have a shot at the cy also. its a long shot, but i still think they have to be considered. i mean hell, peavy's era was has dipped over .30 over a span of 3 starts. he struck out at least 9 each game in those last 3 starts also. he could make a good run at it i think.

NL - Derek Lee
Cy Young - Chris Carpenter

I give Andruw Jones a little bonus points as well for his stellar defense.

I think Derek Lee - the Cubs are at least still in the Wild Card chase, and there isn't any stipulation that says the MVP must be from a division winner.

I agree that Pujols may some day win the triple crown..

Clemens for Cy young - other than wins, he may be having his best season, and that ERA is scary-good. Carpenter is having a nice season for sure, and he's beaten Clemens, Oswalt, and Pedro in head-to-head matchups...but Clemens ERA is just too good to ignore

It's amazing to watch Clemens pitch - the guy has a 0.37 ERA ON THE ROAD, for cryin' out loud. Granted, the Astros are a solid defensive team, but seeing Clemens fake batters into swinging at some really nasty pitches is very enjoyable.

Just curious, does anybody have any candidates for NL Rookie of the Year? I'm an Astros fan, so I'm biased and think that Willy Taveras is having an outstanding year - especially since he's taken over Carlos Beltran's spot - but I admit I don't have much exposure or notice of any other rookies.
