Random drug testing on and off season. Man, talk about MLB's version of Big Brother. You be sleeping, eating, doing the nasty, and you have these men in black suits burst in and ask you for pee sample. WTF?

ESPN Story

after giambi got a $120 mil contract , i am pretty sure 90% of mlb players would have agreed to steroid testing.

Yeah, they just burst in to their homes without anyone letting them.

if they get caught its a 15 game suspension. I think they should modle the olympics where if an athlete gets busted with a hot UA they are banned for 2 years.

While a step in the right direction, this is still a very, very small step. There needs to be mandatory testing with random drug testing, not to mention much heftier penalties. This does nothing to restore my confidence in MLB.

One question on the poll ESPN has is this:

10) If it meant earning $2.5 million a year in the majors instead of less than $100,000 in the minors, would you take steroids?

59.3% No
40.7% Yes

Like hell they wouldn't.

it's be nice, but no way in hell would the MLBPA allow that to go through...

I'm really surprised that they agreed to non-paid suspension for offenses... the way most of these bitch about their contracts, it's almost like taking bread money from their wallets...

If what i heard on the radio is correct, the suspensions are as follows:

1st offense: 10 Day suspension
2nd offense: 30 Day suspension
3rd offense: 60 Day suspension
4th offense: 1 year suspension.

Puts a bit of teeth into it, but there was no mention of notification, as there has been in the past. If it's surprise tests, I think it'll work.
