Players Choice Awards

This is absolutely insane. Right now im going to defend Pujols (favorite player) but i think Derrek Lee should have at least beaten Andruw Jones.

Jones stats are a joke. He only beat them in HR's (P-9; L-19) and RBI's (P-10; L-5).

For Lee: He has had an MVP type year (Yes i know MVP is still to come). If anyone (aside from Pujols) were to win an award it should have been him. His stats (R, H, SO, BA, OB, OBPS etc...) simply dwarf that of Jones.

For Pujols: Gosh, if i were him i would be dumbfounded. He put together yet another MVP caliber season, and was denied. He became the 2nd youngest player in history to hit 200HR's. He has knocked in >30 HR in every single season in the MLB. His numbers dwarf that of Jones (R, H, SO, BA, OB, OBPS etc...)

Among all this i am sure that Dusty Baker and Larussa are simply shaking their heads.

Baker: His player literally carried the team through the season.

LaRussa: Yet again, he is getting beat by another player simply because that player drove in 9 more runs and hit 10 more HRs.

I am just disgusted...

Well, Jeter won his 2nd consecutive Gold Glove. Arod should have won at 3rd, but there's no way they'd give one to another Yankee, especially Arod.

Jones was the lone offense for a team riddled with injuries & filled to the brim with rookies.

Funny IIRC, on the cardinals, Grudzielanek was out, Reggie Sanders was out, Larry Walker was out, Yadier Molina was out, Scott Rolen was out, Jim Edmonds on the DL for a little while. Lets see that leaves Pujols, and Eckstein (although Edmonds did return periodically at the beginning).

Cant lose many more players than that.

You want to laugh at an award, David Ortiz winning "AL Outstanding Player" is the biggest joke. Ortiz might have been the AL's most outstanding hitter, but "player"? No freaking way, Ortiz didn't play, he swung a bat a few times a game and then sat his fat ass down in the dugout while somebody else went out to the field to play.

Having as many as 7 rookies starting in one game made a big impact in the media. A team absolutely desperate in the middle of the year, with all their big money starters(Hudson, Hampton, Thomson) except Smoltz out. Both teams had it hard, but Atlanta had nothing to fall back on. In all honesty, Jones shouldn't win it. I would give it to Lee. He was the most valuable to his team. Without him, they probably wouldn't of even gotten over .400 on the season.

Remember that it's the very own players that played with & against them that voted here.

Agreed. He was always a hard out all year, but outstanding player is quite a stretch.

I agree with that statement. But cant one argue that without Pujols the Cards wouldn't have even made the playoffs?

I think it should have been very close between Lee and Pujols. Perhaps split the awards, Lee should probably have won MLB Outstanding Player (this year ;)) and Pujols the NL Outstanding Player.

Very good point...and i agree. Should probably have been A-Rod :/ (though i hate to say it)

Joe Crede should have won at third, he was just amazing all year. Do they publish the full voting results? I'd like to know how close (or far) Crede or Aaron Rowand were in the voting.

Supposed to be. I haven't seen him make any really "HOLY ******" plays or anything. But little gets by the guy.

Rowand could have easily won, the guy is a great defensive player.

I agree. I hate the AL because of the DH position. A pitcher should be obligated to hit to stay in the game like the NL. The pitchers usually never pulled prematurely like in the NL when their spot in the lineup is due and you rarely see a 2 for 1 switch in the AL. David Ortiz is a good hitter but I wonder how well he'll do in a season if he had to play 1B for the entire season.

I want to know how Bobby Abreu, probably one of the worst fielders in the NL, got a gold glove.

I love the Phillies, they are my #1b favorite team, but Abreu is NOT a good fielder whatsoever.

he makes holy ***** plays on a regular basis. there is a reason he has won a gold glove every single year of his career except his rookie year because he was in right field that year.

While im sure he has made his fair share, nothing to blow you out of your seat. (Willie Mays catch, Edmonds running flat out towards the wall diving and catching) Jones makes nice plays and has his fair share of wows, but i have yet to see something to really wow me.

Dude, I simply do not believe that Bobby Abreu came within 100 miles of a gold glove. I am a die hard Phillies fan, Abreu, a great natural hitter, is a lazy meat-head whose fielding "efforts" are laughable.

Repeat: I do not believe that Abreu won a gold glove! LINK PLEASE!!

Edit: WOW, you are correct. I'm STUNNED!

Still stunned at Abreu winning a gold glove. He may have been the WORST right fielder in the league (and I'm a die hard Phillies fan). He's outright LAZY out there AND makes tons of meat-head mental mistakes.

You probably watch a lot of Phillies games like I do so you know how inept Bobby is in the field. A great hitter, a strong arm, but seriously he is the NL's version of Manny in the field. A guy on 610 just rattled off some fielding stats for this year on Eskins show and even the stats don't lie! He doesn't hussle, and when he tries to half the times he overruns the ball anyway, plus I've NEVER seen him run into the wall trying to catch a fly.. I've seen him for about 5 years now, it's great he never misses a game and hits all these homers.. BUT PLEASE!!!

Are you kidding? so in order to win a gold glove, you have to make X number of diving plays a year? Ever think that Jones is such a good fielder (and is fast as hell) so that he doesn't NEED to make the diving plays? I don't care for Jones much, or the Braves, but saying he shouldn't win a gold glove because he doesn't "wow" you is ridiculous.

That's because Andruw is such a good fielder he doesn't need to make those plays. A play that Edmonds would have to lay out on would be a difficult catch, but would probably be caught in mid-stride or only reaching instead of laying out. He routinely makes extremely good plays, and because of his athleticism and speed, makes catches that almost all the other fielders in the league would not even have an attempt at making.

Edmonds gets better jumps. But ok we will run with your idea. Out of the balls that Andruw has had to completely lay out for, does he catch them most of the time. Also remember that edmonds purposely plays very shallow.

I can't believe Jones is even up for the award, what does Pujols have to do to win it damn.....?
