Mixing RAM...

The other day I ordered a new motherboard and processer (A64), and just today I ordered 1Gb of PC3200 RAM for it. I figured I could just install my existing 512mb of PC2700 untill the new RAM shows up, and then replace it with the PC3200. Then I thought, why not just leave it in? Is there any reason why I shouldn't do this? Will having two different RAM speeds cause problems?

The PC2700 will make the PC3200 run at the slower speed (Ie, PC2700). that's the simple answer for the momemt.

But, is this a socket 754 or 939. DC considerations.

And is it ONE stick of 1 gig, or 2 x 512MB. Likewise for the 512MB of PC2700?

It's a socket 939 A64 3200, and in both cases it's two sticks of RAM (2x256 of 2700 and 2x512 of 3200). Motherboard is an Asus A8V Deluxe.

OK, my "simple answer" still stands.

I think you have a decent chance to get it to play nice in DC, but personally haven't tried such a mix. So it's perhaps a concern.

Secondly, I don't have a socket 939 and can't comment on 4 sticks in DC. Those of us with the nForce2 mobo's can't try that. We've only got 3 dimm slots.
