Mixing protein powder in hot coffee...

Atty

Is there any way that mixing it with the warm coffee would kill or nullify the protein in the powder? Anyone ever do this?

I don't think it would do anything to nullify the protein, although if the coffee is too hot, I've heard that it may start clumping together (which could be highly unappetizing).

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a question that also might be beneficial to the OP.

Does it help at all to consume whey protein at random times when you're not about to work out or just got done working out?

I bought a tub of Gold Standard casein for in-between meals, and I take whey before and after workouts. Is that the standard practice?

Do you hate your butt?
Now that you mention it...why does that happen? D:

You want to eat enough protein throughout the day to repair and build muscle, whatever your bodys daily need is. I add some into the coffee just to get a bit of a boost in the AM.

Right, but what I'm asking is if it's really beneficial to take whey to start off the day as opposed to casein. Casein is much more slow digesting, or so I've read.

Are there any good tasting casein proteins out there? I really like ON 100% Gold Standard Whey, but ON casein tastes nasty to me.

I've never thought to try adding protein powder to my coffee. I can't imagine being able to get an entire scoop to mix well in hot coffee without a shaker cup or blender.

Maybe premix some powder into some milk and use it as a creamer? Just make the coffee stronger if you're using a lot of the 'creamer' so you end up with the same strength per cup.

Coffee makes you poop. Protein makes you poop. The combination of the two could result in an actual shit storm.

I eat over 200g per day, and I'm pretty regular. Actually, I'm shitting carbide ingots... I'm surprised it doesn't sound like rocks when it hits the bowl floor.

If the coffee is hot enough...it will clump the protein

I don't drink my coffee in a regular mug (got an insulated cup, that holds about 1.5 mugs worth), and just use a stick blender to mix it up really well. Adding a half teaspoon of creamer will help it taste better too (your choice of what style creamer).

Of course, I'm not putting a full scoop of powder in my coffee either. Probably 1/2 a scoop, max.

It's not just coffee... any hot liquid will make protein powder congeal (I'm speaking from experience).

LOL this is literally the first time I've heard of this. I went and looked them both up because I didn't believe it.

I've been a coffee drinker for 12 years and never noticably experienced a laxative effect. I'm not a heavy drinker though--max of 1 cup each workday when I'm really drinking a lot 🙂D) of it, and no other sources of caffeine. I go through phases where I quit drinking it for a good while though and don't notice a difference. Good to know though.

I've used protein shakes after workouts for only a couple years, but if anything have noticed the opposite effect. I try to get plenty of fiber when I'm downing a lot of supplemental protein.

Well there are always people that experience opposites, like caffeine makes them sleepy, sleeping pills wake them up, antibiotics make them sick, fiber makes them poop, gunshots make them stronger, etc.
