Mixing memory...

Not sure if this is the right forum category to post this but I figured I'd give it a try...
I'm building my first PC... an Athlon 2200+ on an MSI kt3 Ultra-2R mobo.
I have one stick of 256 meg DDR PC 2700 RAM so far.
Can I add a stick of PC2100 to it or will it cause the system to default to that speed for my 2700 stick?
Is it generally a bad idea to mix RAM speeds?

Thanks in advance!

It will run at the speed of the slowest component in the RAM bank.
Since PC2700 is backwards compatible it would be like having 2 sticks of PC2100 - which isn't too bad.

Just like James Tiberius Kirk said. It's always best to go with equal stick of RAM, but PC2100 speeds aren't too bad. The performance gains with doubling your RAM are going to offset the speed difference IMHO.
