Mixing dimm types

Do specifications like rank/interleave/single/double-sided matter when it comes to filling up dimm slots? Must bank 0 match certain characteristics with bank 1?
 
It depends, usually, you want to match them as close as possible, if you don't on some boards, it won't work very well at all.
 
I'm not new at this and the reason I'm asking is because since memory controllers are integrated on Intel cpus, is it possible to mix certain dimm types? I'm not sure but I think they work in single channel mode.
