i have an old queen-size mattress and box spring. I'd like to replace the mattress, while keeping the old box spring. has anyone experienced issues with this before? any red flags i should be aware of before I do this?

As long as they match up size wise I doubt there would be any issues... at least I've never had any.

Most places only sell them as sets, but if you find a single, you'll probably be ok. You MAY not get the same support the top was originally designed to give, and most likely the manufacturer won't honor any warranty, since they are designed to be sold as sets, but otherwise, a queen size is a queen size, and all should fit close enough.

Unless the box spring has damage or sags it should be fine. Queen size is standard. And don't forget to rotate the box spring.
