mixer for 6 stereo signals

vshah

Lifer
What sort of mixer do i need to mix 6 line level stereo signals together? i'm getting a bit confused with regards to the number of channels I need. I'd assume 6, but some 6 channel mixers seem to have fewer inputs.

I may be hosting a lan party in a few weeks, and rather than have everyone bring their speakers/headphones, I will hook up 1 pair of speakers and simply mix everyone's audio together. So the mixer needs to be able to accept 6 1/8" stereo plugs (or L/R rca jacks, or 1/4" stereo plugs, i can adapt as necessary).

any recommendations?
thanks!

edit: found this, but it only does 4 channels. a 6 channel version would be perfect.

Stereo is 2 channels: Left and Right...

5.1 or 7.1 - is fine for TV broadcast or movies, just a few music albums released yet, have 5.1 sound.

If you choose Stereo to 5.1 - it's just split sound...I wouldn't listen to , let say, LPs - Turntable listen thru 5.1, just Stereo - Left & Right...

did you even read my post? :awe:

Err, headphones. Mixing everyone's sound just makes it useless.

thing is, no one (including myself) has headsets. half of the fun of a lan party is being able to yell at each other...headphones sort of precludes that...

lulz, you guys are the first lan partiers without headphones

Something like the Rolls mixer you found is probably the best solution, anything with more channels will probably need XLR connections. If you don't care about stereo effects (which will be pointless with that many sources) you could output mono from each pc to a single L or R channel on the mixer which would give you up to 8 channels.

I'm sure there's some technical reason why you shouldn't, but in reality you could daisy chain 2 mixers together for a total of 7 channels (output from first mixer takes up one input on 2nd mixer.)

If you're going to mix audio might as well not have anything as no one is going to distinguish anything from anything. Might as well play Yanni and Slayer at the same time too, with a mix of the Bee Gees just to be sure.

With Yanni and Slayer at the same time, you probably will still hear the Slayer pretty good, but, the Yanni you won't really have to hear. Sounds like the best way to listen to Yanni, though not the best way to listen to Slayer. 🙂
