This is completely true. My nieces are all mixed. 50/50, black/white. They have light skin, almost white, some mild black facial features (hair, nose).

They consider themselves white......BUT, when the oldest two recently (the last two years) went to college, they both got all sorts of grants and aid for minorities.

They are no different in social stature than my nephews who live near them, but are white, just as poor, and aren't going to get anywhere near the help with college.

I also find it amusing that famous people like Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, and Alicia Keys are considered to be black, when in fact they are mixed.
Halle Berry and Alicia Keys both have one white parent. Don't know about Denzel's parents, but I guess his interracial roots are a generation or two back.

There are many white people who make a life out of crime and violence. All I said is that your list of "issues with America" aren't caused by being black. They're caused by the way people are raised.</end quote></div>

From what I read you equated gangster culture, absence of father figures and piss poor parental supervision with black culture. I am saying that what you are describing is not black culture.

Sorry, I should have said gangster culture, as I did later on in my post. I realize not all black people live that life style. I also realize that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't represent black America. I'm not as dumb as I look.

Of course there aren't any Asians in jail. Crime doesn't exist in Japan, China, North and South Korea. Yeah right.

Wow, your Asia is small.

yeah you know, just like they'd have to call themselves white to get into the country club, get a mortgage or go meet their white girlfriends parents.

I never addressed it from the other side. I just listed reasons why they would claim to be black.

I'm sure many people do take advantage of college aid and other programs but it's not likely that a person would choose to be black over being white in this country if it was a matter of either or. That is where I agree with Safeway. I'd sure rather be white if I'm being pulled over on the Turnpike, out running late at night in Jersey City or going on a job interview.

I have a little theory that says if humanity survives another 500 years there will be very very little "pure-blooded" people left and most of us will look the same. That's about the only way I know of to truly eliminate racism.

Come to So Cal and check out San Gabriel area....every "race" or "group" of people has its problems. Although I didn't attend Arcadia Highschool (a highschool where many of my college peers apparantly went) they said there were two kinds of people: those who studied, and those who were in gangs.

I don't see being any race as having a greater propensity to do anything with it.

A part of it is about lack of father figures and a breakdown of the family unit (I'm NOT defining family unit as Mom Dad Kids. It could be Mom and Kid(s), or Dad and kid(s) ) that causes people to be led astray into bad activities.
Of course another part is just idiotic kids who pull that shit on their own even with a more stable family base.

Regardless of parentage, if they LOOK black they call themselves black or if they LOOK white they call themselves white.

You don't see a black person claiming to be white or a white person claiming to be black even if they have one parent of each if they DON'T look the color.</end quote></div>

um, that isn't entirely true. I have seen plenty of white people claiming to be black on tv talk shows.
o rly? Springer?

case in point, they call one of these twins white and one black because obviously that is their skin color, although they have a parent of each color.

Story here: 'Million to one' black and white twins celebrate first birthday

I don't think the white one is going to call herself black and the black one is going to call herself white unless they are colorblind.

it'll take a lot longer than 500 yrs...logistically its just not possible to do it in 20 or so generations

Why do mixed (black / white) people always refer to themselves as black?

Because they are defined as being "black". In a "white" racist society you can not be "white" if you have any "non-white" ancestry.

It was a big thing awhile ago that Tiger Woods did not define himself as being "black". But you notice that the media and almost everyone does define him as being "black".

For what it's worth I'm mixed and I just refer to myself as such. I definitely don't consider myself a black person but considering myself a white person isn't really possible. So I just go with mixed or biracial.

This is retardedly easy to answer. Half black is still black to white people.

Your answer is retardedly stupid. You can't speak for all white people as to what their opinion is.

Because everyone wants to be special. And being part of a minority gets you closer to being unique.

Everyone does this to some degree, and not just with race.

There's a lot of answers to why this is the case.

From a historical standpoint, it was the law.

Now, it's just the norm.

You guys are thinking way too hard about it. People are pulled to those whom they look like and even pushed.

You know it's true. My observational evidence trumps your anecdotal evidence.

Halle Berry, Tyra Banks, Tiger Woods, Barack Obama, Rosario Dawson. Hmm, what do all these people have in common. Oh yeah, they're all half BLACK.

Bite me whitey. You know it's true. My observational evidence trumps your anecdotal evidence.

It never ceases to amaze me that people want to complain about whites, yet they commit the same mistakes that they accuse the white people of making.

"All them damn white people stereotype!"

Regardless of your race, you're a moron and that's all you'll ever be.

My minority coworker the other day confirmed that he got a raise solely because he was a minority. He tried to refuse, but they wouldn't reduce the raise.

No, this is stereotyping:

What I said wasn't a stereotype. I didn't say every single white person doesn't distinguish between half black and black. But I live in a place called reality and just because YOU don't seem to have a mailing address here doesn't make my statement any less true.
