I get sent a lot of links, so I thought I'd share a few for possible discussion... or whatever.

The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point release of The Militant Ideology Atlas, an in-depth study of the Jihadi Movement's top thinkers and their most popular writings. This is the first systematic mapping of the ideology inspiring al-Qaeda.

I like the last map when it zooms out all the way and you watch the blot of the Mongols and nearly everything turn monocolor 😉

well, as it turns out, they've all caused an equal number of American deaths since 1960.

I think most intelligent people are aware that terrorism hasn't claimed an astronomical number of lives. It's interesting what you can do with statistics... like the number of vehicle fatalities in a year or two are equal to the number dead in Korea or Vietnam, etc. But judging from your post and the website you linked, I believe you're making some pretty lousy conclusions.

Peanut deaths don't tend to cost 100s of billions of dollars in damage. They don't tend to destabilize countries or affect international policies, relations, and outcomes. Deer deaths just don't create the kind of deterioration of quality of life and lightning doesn't have the same social costs that terrorism does.

Lot's of people said the same thing about communism (hell, some probably still do)... "they aren't hurting us, just let them do what they want." Well only a fool would equate #of dead with threat. Militant, corrupt, dangerous ideologies must be faced. But maybe your requirement for taking this seriously (dead people) will be met once a nuke-cloud appears over a major city.
