Anyone try a Mitsumi branded drive? Their DVD drive seems pretty nice and I was considering it. If anyone knows all the mumbo jumbo thats printed and tell me if its worth it Id appreciate it.

I had a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive few years back ,it never gave me any problems was a solid performer.Mitsumi drives are good value for money IMHO,cheap but solid enough in performance etc.

🙂

It says it only has 256KB of buffer space. Don't most drives have atleast 2MB?

EDIT: I think I'm wrong... Disregard this post. 😕

There's a good chance your floppy drive is made by Mitsumi, so they're in lotsa households even though they're not quite a household name. 🙂 I believe NEC and IBM are the two other big players in the floppy drive market.

Anyways, I think they're similar to Lite-On; used to be an OEM maker of drives which were then rebadged/rebranded for retail. I guess they're trying to distribute and sell some of their own products on the retail market. Should be good quality; there's probably tons of Mitsumis out there rebranded as something else.

the Mitsumi is fine..I'm currently using Cendyne-boxed Pioneer A05 ..starting to eyeball a combo DVD/CDRW drive..esp. the Samsung 😉

Mitsumi CD-R's and floppy drives have been around for years, especially as OEM components in all kinds of systems. They're solid performers.

I have a mitsumi cd-rw that I used to use and it always worked until I replaced it with a faster drive. Still works.

If it matters to you, the two Samsung DVD/CDRW drives I've worked with so far get pretty darn warm, borderline hot.
