Anyone try a Mitsumi branded drive? Their DVD drive seems pretty nice and I was considering it. If anyone knows all the mumbo jumbo thats printed and tell me if its worth it Id appreciate it.

It says it only has 256KB of buffer space. Don't most drives have atleast 2MB?

EDIT: I think I'm wrong... Disregard this post.

There's a good chance your floppy drive is made by Mitsumi, so they're in lotsa households even though they're not quite a household name. :) I believe NEC and IBM are the two other big players in the floppy drive market.

Anyways, I think they're similar to Lite-On; used to be an OEM maker of drives which were then rebadged/rebranded for retail. I guess they're trying to distribute and sell some of their own products on the retail market. Should be good quality; there's probably tons of Mitsumis out there rebranded as something else.

Mitsumi CD-R's and floppy drives have been around for years, especially as OEM components in all kinds of systems. They're solid performers.

I have a mitsumi cd-rw that I used to use and it always worked until I replaced it with a faster drive. Still works.

If it matters to you, the two Samsung DVD/CDRW drives I've worked with so far get pretty darn warm, borderline hot.
