I've always respected mitsubichy's 4X and AWD systems
Don't they regularily win Dakar or always in the running?

still, snow tires > xwd. There was a piece on one of the cars (hell if i remember which) where they tested the acura system on a zdx on ice/snow and said it was amazing too.

To me the article speaks more to the proper education of driving skills than the superiority of mitsu's AWD. Maybe I'm missing something because I'm not a racerboi.

Well that's the problem you see with people who own AWD cars and they're usually the first to crash in bad weather. People think it makes them be able to handle the weather better and they can drive like they normally drive which we all know isn't true. It gives them a false sense of security.

SH-AWD on Acuras are pretty amazing... The X6 with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) finally rivals it (took them long enough)... too bad it's only on limited models for BMW.

all the new torque vectoring systems are pretty awesome. i think the S4/S5 audis have it too, called active differetial or something like that.

Four Wheel Drive.
Four Wheel braking.
Two Wheel steering.

It's the only advantage. Idiots who drive faster in the snow in SUV's or AWD equipped vehicles are failures.

Absolutely. The only thing AWD does is allow you to accelerate into the ditch more quickly than you could with 2WD. Most people don't realize that AWD does not help a car stop any better since all cars already brake with 4 wheels. More people would benefit from putting snow tires on their car than getting AWD.

that is not entirely true.

if you took a curve in an awd car say in snow, you probably would be less likely to lose traction, so you'd have better control of your car if you entered at the same speed. so you wouldn't have to hit the brakes as early, or say fishtail a rwd car on a curve. i mean it would probably still not be the smartest thing in the world to do, but you would probably be more likely to be able to get away with it in an AWD car.

of course once you do slip, or have to stop then you are just as bad off as a FWD or RWD version of your same car (probably worse off as your brakes would have to make up for the mass of your AWD system)
