Mitsubishi Montero 2004 and up model

I am thinking of buying the Mitsubishi Montero, either a used 2004 or a brand new one. Anybody has it. How do you like it? Even if you don't have it but you know something about it, please give me your opinion on this SUV.

damn, with this kind of gas prices, there still people who buy SUV that do like 17mpg....

my pop has the 96 version and it runs great. braking distant is a horror.

I had a '95 and loved it. Best SUV on the road at the time...safer, higher and the best (anti) roll over percentage. It was a luxury SUV when most were still utility vehicles and looked and drove like it. Biggest problems with the newer models - still a V6 but it's very heavy. You will not get good mileage or acceleration out of it. It also tends to be a little pricey for the options you get now...especially when every SUV from Kia to Lexus has features that only high end models used to have.

I test drove a 2001 LTD back in 2001 and I fell in love with it even though it only used a 3.5L V6. Since 2003 I believe, Mitsubishi replaced it with a 3.8L engine. I haven't test driven one since. I should go test drive one. My main concern is the gas mileage.

Are you saying the Montero doesn't have all the luxury equipment like others do or it is more expensive compared to the other ones?
